I think all the early ones as you stated have the one inch . but looking in the harley catalog it seems they went to a metric size axel. dont know if its 06 and up or 08 and up that went to a metric size?

The wheels from '08 and up are called 25mm, but are actually 1" for us (the rest of the world now only recognizes metric). Since Harley's wheels are made in Australia, they carry the metric designation.

Paul, I have my original set of '08 StreetGlide rims if you're still looking.

    There is a difference between 1" and 25mm....not much but a little....here's a conversion
1" = 25.4 mm, so if it is a 25mm hole, the 1 inch axle won't go thru it. 25 mm =0.984252 inches or .015748 smaller than 1 inch.

yep ran the math as well . i can turn down the shaft on the lathe and leave a step for the spacers and clamps for the mounting on the front axle . like i said to much work . lol the wheels i have now on the bike are nice and i spent the time to polish the edge of the wheels to a very nice finish . ill live whith them

Just use new bearings. The wheels are the same just get bearings to fit your axles.

The axles designated as 25mm are in fact 1". H-D didn't want to have to make the designation "25.4mm" to further confuse the home market. As for using these wheels on smaller axles (3/4"), there are several bearing mfr's. that make this bearing a very inexpensive ($10 ea.) conversion......no need to machine anything.

I helped a friend do this conversion on his '09 Dyna (25mm axle) when he bought a bargain set of Performance Machine wheels that were made for a 3/4" axle. We swapped bearings in 15 minutes.
