Street Glide vs Electra Glide Classic

The street glides look nice but they are a stripped down e-glide and cost more. I agree with Cowboy, the street glides are for the youngins crusin around looking cool. Us older guy's need comfort along with our prestige!

kenfuzed; A buddy of mine bought a Steetglide last year, very cool looken' ride , His complaint is that it is too low when he corner even a little aggressive the bike bottoms out and scrapes the pipes and that is his only complaint . He traded in a 95 Classic and could corner alot harder with the old bike.

If I new how to post a pic here I would show you my 05 classic. Quick release tour pak only goes on for trips. When taking the Mrs out for a spin I slap on the quick release passanger back rest. My cousin that rode Ultras for years fell in love with the SG when he first saw one. He kept the SG for 1 month before he turned it back in for another Ultra. He complained about the ride was too stiff & did not like how it handled when riding a passanger. IMHO I doubt that many of the SG owners/riders have rode any other touring bike so the ride comfort/handling is not compared too other touring bike models.

Either way I love my EGC & would suggest to anyone considering a new bike to go & rent the bike(s) for a day before you fork over the 20K.

got the 06 street glide comfortable ride sissy bar I custom built so I added extra padding, use the bags and a soft duffle with a pocket stiched on hang it on the back when my better half is with me or flip it on the front side for my back rest put the dragon fly wings and lower wind deflector, and I will be getting a taller windshield for the cooler monthes, as of yet momma ain't complained about the ride, as for the low setting only dragged the left board once other then that love it. when I'm at the house I have my hot rod (in the making) and when I/we travel it is a still comfortable tour bike. I like the Idea of renting one first like cracker mentioned

coming off a heritage the you know what to expect from the streetglide but i am sure the ride is a bit better/lower to the ground makes mine a fun ride but i miss the 05 classic.my leg was getting tired of swinging it up so high to get on,also the tour pack is hard to be missing .the classic also rode smoother,but the streetglide just seems so nimble compared to the classic,whichever you choose you cant go wrong.i installed the passenger seat rest in about a hour ,pricey.i think the tour pack for the streetglide is around 625 plus another 60 for mounting plates.to steep for me

my question to you, is a matter of money????
cause i would go with the e glide, and make my tour pack detachable, lord knows the money your gonna sink into any way..........pipes, intake,remap, the list goes on, might as well make the e glide the way you want it, you wont be sorry i promise..........

Hey Madcatter...you need to go in the motorcycle tech talk section and check out the passenger armrests I design for my Heritage Classic. Pic's were posted in my April 26th post. They will fit any Harley with a passenger backrest. Not trying to make a sale here, just thought you might be interested in an alternative to a tour pack.

I'd go with the E-G..just more stuff there. You can pull some stuff off, get a different dash when you want. An Electra Glide is a very very easy bike to like..the trunk is great for touring.

Go with the E glide. Iv'e hade 2 of them and loved them both. I have found out one thing is KEEP THE OLD LADY HAPPY. Another word of wisdom. When she gets on the E Glide she is going to be spoild and never want to get on nothin eltz. Thats what happend to me. She won't even concider getting on my fxr and I had a hell of a time getting my Road Glide (with detachable tour pack) comfortable enouph for her. If you go with the SG and put a detachable tour pack on it be ready to swap your seat. After several tries and both of us being all butt hurt we ended up with a corbin. A stock low cut seat just doesn't go with a tour pack, then again you have a sleek low cut bike with some pillow seat on it. I could also swear the detachable pac rides a little further back on the bike than the stationary one does making for a different ride. The extended arm rest made a huge diferance to. Iv'e also herd from several people that the SG does in fact scrape on the corners to. The bottom line is the SG is a sleek great looking bike that will scrape on the corners with a windshild that will push all the bugs into your face for more money. The EG is a great bike built for two people.

The only problem I have with the EGC is the height Factor. Being short 5'5", I have a difficult time with those upper end tourers. However I checked out the SG and found that my feet were flat on the ground instead of on my tippy toes with the EG's and UG's. That would be an easy sale for me.

You can purchase a matching tour pack for the FLHX. Quick release mounts are also available. Check your local HD parts department and then make your purchase based on which bike you like best.

I had to make up my mind on this very question a few months ago, I chose the SG. My reason was mainly based on looks, in my opinion the EG's are damm ugly and I want to be proud of what I ride.
That said I'm not happy with the rear shocks and will be replacing them soon, also the screen needs to be about 3 inches taller, that too will be replaced with a taller black screen. Apart from that its almost the same bike, and I find I have to be pushing fairly hard to srape it, I didnt think there was much difference if any to the clearance on the boards compared to the EG's. I havnt found a bike yet that suits me staight off the floor, but the SG comes close, Tom

GO LOOK AT A ROAD KING, CLASSIC OR CUSTOM, CUSTOM HAS THE STRIPPED DOWN LOOK, DETACHABLE WINDSHIELD AND SADDLE BAGS FOR THE STRIPPED DOWN LOOK AND U ALSO CAN GET THE DETACHABLE TOUR PACK. THE SEAT HEIGHT IS LOW BUT PLENTY OF GROUND CLEARANCE, I, RUNNING 4"DIA MUFFLERS AND HAVE NEVER BOTTOMED OUT, BIKE IS LIGHTER THAN SG OR EG, RIDES AND HANDLES GREAT. CHECK THEM OUT
