Stuck Piston

    I know I shouldn't ask advice about a Japanese bike but will anyhow. I've got and old 90 Kaw that has a seized piston in it. I had the head off and looked down inside and can see a few filings on top of the piston. The piston top is a little below top of exhaust port. How can I get it out with out damaging other parts like rod or crank bearings. Hope someone can help.

    I would just take a big hammer and beat it out, a big metal one with sharp edges!

    No really just soak around the sides with some penetrating solvent/oil

    get it to loosen

    Now if its shifted and dug into the wall it might not help get it out,

    If you know this and it won't come out you may need to get it to a shop so they can bore it out to the next oversize and fit pistons...

    I wuz jokin about the hammer

    But you might need to force it out,

    Is the crank out? is the rod still on the piston?

    I would be moving it the direction where it could do least amount of damage.

    Right now the piston is a about halfway past the exhaust port. I have to find a way to seal the port or all the oil that goes in will run into the exhaust pipe.

    I was thinking the same thing cept I would have said get a 15 pound sledge hammer..:roflmao: :roflmao:

    That reminded me of when my buddies and I entered an old Toyota Corolla in our college spring festival day. We had a sledge hammer and sold 5 swings for a buck. People went crazy with that. I think we cleared $150.00 bucks after the beer runs. :D

    don't fill it up with oil just get some really good penetrating lubricant for stuck things (Liquid Wrench) and spray it around the edge of the piston,

    A qt of oil sitting in a cyl isn't going to do any good if its stuck so tight nothing can get through, you need penetration, get the spray and do it a couple of times.

    WD 40 evaporates quickly so it won't do you much good.

    Pour Diesel fuel in the cylinder and let it break the carbon and everything down. Hope there's not a stuck ring in there.
    Yer gonna probaly have to punch it out and see what caused the problem
    Carbon is a big enemy to the motors now days.

    I wouldn't worry to much about saving the cylinder, they are nikasoled and you can't bore them, So you can beat it out!

    Haven't had time to get anything done yet. I don't believe that the cylinder is made of nicosil. This is an old engine and cylinder isn't sleeved.

    At least start squirting some penetration oil every day, that should give it a good time of soaking before you get back to it!~

    I use break fluid to free a siezed piston.Fill it up let it soak then put the bike in gear and rock it back and forth.This has worked for me .Good luck.

    I finally got to work on the bike today. I put it in gear and rocked it a few times and the motor broke loose. I took the head off and wiped the cylinder wall clean. The wall didn't look to bad. Not to much scoring. I'm going to put in fresh fuel and try to start it. Then I should be able to tell if the bottom end needs to come apart.
