Did you do the work to the carb yourself or was it that way when you got the bike? Who put the Air intake on and pipes?

I would probably start messing with the mixture screw first. Just a question. How do you know that there aren't any leaks. What was your method?

    Thanks man

i did all the work, i tested the intake with propane
    i installed new exhaust gaskets.
It pops through the carb once in awhile.
Mainly when it is cold. As far as the decel pop i don't think i will vere get it out due to the pipes. If i take it apart again i am thinking about changing the intake gaskets anyway. The bike has 40,000 miles and the intake gaskets are original.

How long ago when the air intake and exhaust was done. Could the decel popping that you hear be coming from hard throttle and let go??

I went back and read your postings from your other thread. To tell the truth, I get an occasional arb fart out of my bike. I have an 01 Twinkie with 37g cams in it, everything else is stock. I notice when the temp is a little cooler, (under 50*) or if I haven't let the bike warm up completely, them I get a cough. Just one, and then I am OK. I have Vance and Hines True Duals on my bike and I get popping when decelerating, but that is coming from winding the piss out of it and then letting go. :D

There you go, try replacing it with a stock slide and see what happens. If the slide is different, then I assume that the spring is different as well?

From everything that I have ever read is that if the slide is too light, it can flutters erratically. This eliminates how well one can tune the carb. I would suggest to take out that stuff and put the stock stuff back in unmolested.

Did you put the thunderslide in when you did the pipes and air intake?

    yes i did

I tell you what though, if it was running lean due to an intake leak it would not start every time no matter what always without the choke. I guess i will try and fine tune it. i also bought a new performance cv carb from wincycles. ever hear of them?

Johnnie, you are correct in your theory. If small amounts of gas are getting by the slide, the vacuum created on decel sucks the gas into the cylinders causing incomplete combustion (pops).

I'd look at this slide for too much wear, not seating, etc. Also replace the rubber diaphragm valve--they dry out and crack, causing air leakage.

Just out of curiosity, did you just guess at the jetting or did someone suggest to you what jetting to use?

    Been reading many forums
after pipes and cams the most popular was a .48 slow with a 195 main.

I'd bet that is the problem, CV Performance stuff is much better than dyno jet parts, if you read enough you'll find most guys end up taking the thunder slide out and putting the original slide back in with an N-69 Sporty needle.
    Again Just My Opinion

listen brother the cv performance kit works awesome i spend alot of time tunning, tried many diffrent carbs , and the cv works the best , try this works for me awesome 45 0r 46 cv needle cv tube and 195 main cv spring with stock slide DONT DRILL THE SLIDE HOLE! THE SPRING IS SET UP TO SLIDE AT THE CORRECT AMOUNT , it will run great the slide is taking to much time on decel to come back down off a hard roll and its bouncing . the cv needle alows for the main to come in a little faster so your low speed jet can be a little leaner . its similar to the sportster needle , give it a try see how it works out for under 70 bucks youll have an awesome carb.

yes i did and the carb slide is the only diffrence than the cv the bore diameter of the slide is about 0.20 smaller the slides wont interchange with the stock one float and jets and all other internal parts are the same .paisd about 249,95 for it they are right down the road from me
