Suggestions for exhaust pipes?

I'm getting a 06" Dyna Super Glide this month and want to put on an EXTREMELY LOUD deep rumbling exhuast. Any suggestions for pipes? I've heard Vance & Hines Shortshots Staggered or any Samson pipes are exactly what I'm looking for(2 1/4" sawed off shorties?), can anyone vouch for that?what about Pythons or Bassani? Also does anyone know a website where I can listen to what a certain exhaust pipe will probally sound like? Thanks

Not a lot out there yet since the 06 is totally dfferent...and why LOUD? I understand mellow and I understand performance enhancing but loud just draws cops and tickets.....

f$%# the police loud pipes save lives the louder the better 2 1/4 i think will be more deep but 2 will have a nice snap dont forget when you change out the pipes you have to play with the carb

Loud pipes don't save lives, awareness of your surroundings and intellegent riding does. There have been cases recorded showing that loud exhaust / lack of exhaust have actually STARTLED drivers and was the root cause of traffic fatalities between motorcycles and autos. I agree that a bit louder can help some, but to say that loud pipes save lives is mis-information.

No offence but spoken like a boy instead of a man. Ever hear the old song "I fought the law....and the law won"? Well, you can talk the talk all ya want but when it comes to walking the walk....lying face down on the side of the road while some eager beaver John Law runs you through NCIC and scatters your stuff all over the road while his partner has his 9mm pointed at your head, gets the point across REAL quick. They have GUNS. They have radios, dogs, helicopters and get paid for doing what they do. And face it soe of them are bored and just looking to jack somebody up. True 99% of the cops are straight up but they have thier 1%ers just like bikers do. Yeah I know loud pipes save lives..I have a patch says that too. But, I also know that having some yoyo rack his straight pipesas he comes home at 02:00 and wakes your 2 yr old doesn't win friends or influence people. Being an as#$*^% to your neighbors isn't cool, it's stupid...and creates more support for the folks that wanna shut us down as motorcyclists. Like it or not, we need the support of John Q. Public to fight the politicians. And you don't get somoenes support by intenionally pissing them off.

V&H website has a feature allowing you to hear what their pipes sound like but, your best bet is to go to a rally/show and listen to bikes in person. I think there is a fine line between Loud and EXTREMELY LOUD. I wouldn't want my ride any louder than the V&H 2in1.

I agree with GreyBear and bikerjim1 I have HD's Performance Touring Slip On my '03 Road King and have been told by other bikers that they sound very nice. They're not too loud, have a nice low tone rumble. You've got to remember you are riding the bike. Cops and EPA aside; if you're planning to spend a lot of time in the saddle (and what rider doesn't) wind and exhaust noise is both fatiguing and dangerous to your hearing. I love the sound of my HD but I also want to be able to hear the whisper of my grandchildren as I get older.

The town I live in is spread out and many bikes have loud exhausts on them and do not annoy anyone. There aren't any strict rules about how loud bikes can be and sometimes the cops pull up to you at a red light or other and say hey nice bike, even though my friends are reving the hell out of there bikes with thunderously loud exhausts. So if you could point me in the direction I'm looking for that will be a big help? Thanks, and thanks to everyone else for there input.

Well heres my .02 worth,I have Big shot stgrds on my o4 Fatty,My bike is louder than I really was anticipating or wanting ,however they are very deep and do have a great sound,my buddy has a 03 wide glide with big shot shorts and when we are sitting side by side,running side by side at any speed you cant hear my bike at all ,If you are looking for just plane obnoxious loud, big shot shorts are for you

The best suggestion I can give you is to go to your local MOCO dealer, get to know them and build a relationship. Ask them if they will take a moment to walk 1 or 2 of the bikes that have something you might be interested in out the garage door for you to listen, very hard to tell anything in the garage. Sound of exhaust is very different to everyone, what I like may not be at all what U like

there will be as many different opinions on pipes as there are people riding bikes. the best thing is go to a bike show/meet and listen to what sounds good to you. if sound is first and foremost your objective over performance, I think that might be your best bet. Good luck.

Vance & Hines Short Shots

I have a set of Vance & Hines Short Shots on my 99 Softail. I took the baffles out and it has a nice deep tone to them. They are loud but not obnoxiously loud to the point where the neighbors complain or the police bother me at all. When I pull up at a stop light the drivers look to see where I'm at but it doesn't scare them or make them jump. Hope this somewhat answers your question about Vance & Hines short shot pipes.

Which Pipes

I saw an interesting ad in the new American Iron that reminded me of the old days of exhaust cut-outs on cars. I don't remember the system name but the exhaust system has some sort of controller that lets you ride with a full open exhaust or a muffled exhaust. There is a switch that mounts on the handlebars to control it. When you are on the road you can open it up but when in town you can tone it down.

Can't do much for the performance of the bike though. Don't get me wrong, I like my bike on the louder side (V&H Bigshot shorts, no baffles ), just stating that, to try to pass a message such as louder exhaust will save your life is like stating that driving a compact car with high beams on all the time will save your life!
Bottom line,....go as loud as makes you happy, but mainly, keep your awareness high when riding, that's all!

pipes for the 06 dyna

Well now it's my turn to ask . I have about narrowed it down to: Rhinehart 2 into 1 Thunderheaders 2 into 1 and the Vance and Hines big radius. Anyone know where I could find some evaluation on HP/Torque gains with these? I want something that does a good stage one job yet will continue to work as I keep going....I noticed that CD used the Thunderheaders on the bike he has been building....Thanks, Ride Free....

Well spoken GreyBear and very true! Just remember by putting a loud set of exremely loud pipes on yer ride can KILL your performance.

Well after posting the question on the 06 Dyna exhaust i was looking around and came up with the list of tech articles....sorry to be a dumb ass. WHOLE lot of info there. My question now is a bit more refined....does the Vance and Hines Gigshots etc with the cross over and all do as good a job as a true 2 into 1?
