It's that time of year again, boys - today is the first day of summer break for us here at Hobgood Academy. Ten weeks of "paid" vacation. Actually, I stretched out my monthly checks to 12 months instead of 9. Been riding a lot the past week but this week has rain predicted for 7 straight days. I rode yesterday anyhow with a 40% chance and got home around 3 pm just as the raindrops started to fall . Gotta love it.

Maybe, if the ol' back heals a bit more, I'll try tooling up to Ohio on the shovel to see my family. 600 miles each way. Those are my only plans for the summer, so far.

600 miles on any motorcycle in one day makes for a very long tiring day. Hope you enjoy your summer break. My wife went for the 12 month pay checks as well best way to do it.

I will never be able to ride 600 miles in a day again. Maybe 200, tops. My back just won't let me do it anymore.
Be more like 3 days up, 4 days there and then 3 days back.

Nothing wrong with a scenic trip, you meet more people and see cooler stuff that way. Are you going to need to put on your larger tank for the trip? I seem to remember you switched to a smaller one awhile back.

200 a day on your scooter would be like 500+ on my R/K I'm thinking. Hope you have a good time, ride safe, and the weather treats you well.

Because of the sprung seat on the scoot, it's not much different than a bike with shocks to me, although the ol' backside does get tired sooner on a smaller seat. Simple physics. If a hardtail is set up right, it will ride fairly comfortable. A rider just has to be alert for deep potholes LOL. It's funny because 2 years ago when I attempted the ride up there I was in better shape and it was the bike that broke LOL. I think the scooter is ready now - I've been tearing around here a lot lately and the bike is running as good as it ever has, thanks to Paul & Kirby, Tattoo, Dennis Thurlow (who rebuilt the heads) and everybody else who helped me get it that way :D.

Ha-ha! I had considered a gel implant - not in my butt  - in the seat, but it would require having to tear the leather cover off and and have another one made. I got a quote a couple of years back from LePera, over $400 - too rich for my blood - and I'm not sure if the investment will live up to the hype.

Roadsterguy, I gave my old gas tank away.

Today I rode to Tattoo's and helped him with his scooter. He actually let me wrench on it and he never lets anybody do that. Took the generator off and all the forward controls and shift parts. He's getting rid of the bling stuff, spike nuts, etc. and fabricate his own controls and use stainless nuts & washers where needed. He's going for a more traditional look. He's also looking to flat black his tins and frame eventually. I think my style bobber is influencing him ;). We rounded up 4 old generators and he's trying to make one good one out of the parts.

No life preservers for me, boys. Rain hit all around us today, so I got in a couple of nice rides. Tattoo says if bike is running good, don't mess with it. Duh! Why would I do a thing like that for? If it's running good, then ride it, ride it, ride it!

I'm real close to 10,000 miles since the build ended.

Thanks for the offer, Cowboy, but I think I'll stick with the sprung seat. Gotten used to it and I've done a lot of mod work on it. Even changed the position of the springs bungs on the bottom of the seat and added extensions to the crossbar so the seat can set as far back as possible. The seat is almost 3" back farther than the stock position.

I see your point. You change your tank bigger like I mentioned, go with a different seat like Cowboy mentioned, pretty soon your going home on the forum bike and not your own! I imagine by now you've got it set up the most comfortable way for your body anyway.
You going to rig up something for saddlebags or anything?
