Looking for personal info/experiences with SuperTrapp exhaust systems on H.D. softtail. Specifically pre-'05 Fatboy. Wondering about performance, sound, and workmanship quality.

Thanks, Skull. Yeah, I'm leaning heavy towards them, too. Probably in a couple of months. (My tax rebate to the economy.) I've been running Screaming Eagle 16 Gauge on my Stage II Fatboy for the past three years. I like the performance, but, they are too high pitched for my old ears. I want to keep the gains, but lower the tone a bit. I'll do a post on what I end up with, and what I think of them.

Hmmm ! I had D&D FatCat on my other bike, wanted something not so loud so I got a supertrapp supermet 2in1 for performance. See if you can tell anything about this and if you like it. I have a stock aircleaner, They don't have the TM out for my 08 electraglide yet so I can't do any great mods. The performance on Supertrapp supermeg is great. Bobby with woods performance was telling me about them last year.

Thanks, Cardboard, for the video. Good sound on those Super Trapps. How were they cruising on the hwy? Did they seem to mellow out? My Screaming Eagles stay pretty high pitched, even when cruising 60.

used to have D&D FatCat with the Quiet Baffle on the other bike I had, and they was a lot louder than the super trapp. The sound is controled by the number of disc you put in. The torque curve and hp is also controled by the amount of disc you put in. The more dis the more power and louder noise.
The sound ain't that loud while running.
Ask ChuckTx. He's rode the bike. Mabe its loud to him since he runs fishtails.
    I like them.

Bud got tired of his pro pipe, sounds good but too loud

I turned him on to the Supertrapp supermeg 2-1

Its quiet with the end cap on it deep rumble but not obnoxious like the pro pipe or thunderheader. In fact it's quieter than my e series.

Made the same HP and tq with it as the pro pipe.

Only problem is he now can hear every friggin noise on the bike and we're constantly looking for things to fix LOL

    You be the judge

SuperTrapp makes a high quality & tuneable product (I really want a set of the 2-2 "high pipes" the flat-trackers use for one of my Sportsters) but as far as the 2-1 being the best overall performer ..... I don't have dyno numbers for a big twin, so the ones below are from a 1200 Sportster with SE air-cleaner, rejetted carb, but, no other modifications other than the pipes tested. The power curves peak a bit higher with a Sportster, but the overall shape is pretty much the same as a BT & below are the torque numbers with stock pipes (including crossover) & SE I (Cycle Shack type) slip-ons; a SuperTrapp 2-1 with 20 discs; & with 13 discs. I chose the torque numbers over the HP numbers as they're more indicative of real world performance. The highest number @ any given rpm is in red, the middle # in blue & the lowest # in black.

Know if you are lookin at maxium performance out of supertrapp, yer suppose to start with 12 dis and add 2 at a time till you git to where you want to be. The lower amount of disc are suppose to give you more torque at Lower rpm, the more dis can move the torque to a higher rmp range.
To go threw the whold rpm range would be a lot of dyno time too.
But you can ride the bike and feel the difference in Power and the sound yer lookin for.

Yep, a 2-1 system on a Harley works best in a range about 1500 rpm wide & while you'll not get rid of all the torque dip in the 2500 rpm range, you can move the powerband above that around with the SuperTrapp by changing the # of discs. There's also a product on the market called a "Snuf R Not" which is an end cap you can open or close. Opened it allows more exhaust flow for the top end, but it also makes the bike louder. Closed it goes back to the sound level you'd have without it. So you could tune primarily for torque @ lower rpms & still be able to use the top end if you wanted. It's always a compromise though - you won't get max power from idle to redline, but you can target a particular range.
