How much of a pain is it to put a tach from Harley on a 2007 Street Bob?
    Anyone have an Idea?

probably a silly question but why do you need a tach when you have a 5800 rpm rev limiter

Many I ride with like to know what rpm there bike starts to lug, where it likes to criuse the most, a corelation between rpm's and vibration, where it smooths out, where it is lumpy, and even if you have not raised your rpm limiter, it is still good to shift before you bounce it!

New HD Tachs can come with a programmable shift light, nice if you have a heavy wrist LOL

I thought HD did something different on the newer 06 and up regarding hooking up a tach, read something about the pink wire not being there anymore, you have to run the wires to one of the plugs and put an end connector on it, the instructions will be pretty clear on your model bike what you need to do, it's a couple hours job at the most.

Chicagohd.com sells them at 20% off if you haven't bought it yet.

    Not What I thought

In reading the Wiring schematic for all the Dyna's, the Dyna Low's schematic is almost the same! Almost!
The Tach I got ,after two months of fighting with the local Harley parts people, came with no female plug, no wires and no pin assignment for the plug! IE...Is Pin number 1 on the top right?
If I figure out the pin's, then there the little matter of the Orange ignition wire!
On the Street Bob it runs to the Speedometer. On the Dyna Low it Runs to the Tach. This leads me to believe that this wire is just for a lamp indicator but, with little or no information it makes it hard to know.
The Dyna Lows tach is just spliced in to the Speedometers wiring except the orange ignition wire.

So are you trying to put a used tach from a Dyna Lowrider onto a Street Bob? If so maybe the parts guys may be unwilling to cooperate only because they are unfamiliar with how to convert this. Try going to the service department instead. Sometimes you can find a tech who is more familiar with the newer models since they work on them daily.

Personally I've always relied on the tach in my head... or is that a tick? :roflmao:

    More RPMS

I Got A 95 FLHT 1340 and I have been riding for 33 years and have had my share of harleys .I have never owned anything but Harleys. And through out the years I have heard all the stories about rpms how harleys can't take to many and that they will blow up. Thats just a bunch off bull sh#t. If they are put together right you can wind them all day long. I twist the wick on my 95 FLHT hard. I run S&S carb crane cam and a set of 1200 SPORTSTER HEADS that have been reworked to fit my 1340 thats right sportster heads. They been hoged out alittle but thats it. With baggers its more about torque then anything. The sportster heads give it good hard pull . I also run the thunder header two in to one. I shift into 2nd between 6500 to 7000 rpms and I run stock liffters but change them about every 20.000 miles. And I run Plain old HARLEY oil and change it every 1200 to 1500 hunderd miles. All the stories that biger is better is just that stories. I have a buddy thats got a 96cu inch S&S 100 HP shovel head in a 71 FL and I will pull on him every time its a tight race intill we hit about 110 then I just keep pulling top end is buck 130 135 if the winds it at my back . And its all HARLEY cyclinder fill is important think of a 40 foot wide river going into a 5 foot wide stream the force coming out the other end . Thats what Sportster heads do
