If you have a service manual for your bike, I would definitely look there first. That would be my only suggestion. Sorry.

I'd never cut into someones wiring without first looking at the wiring diagram and I do this for a living. The most important tool you'll ever buy is the service manual.

I know that HD changed from the pink wire setup sometime in your model year time frame.

There is a way to hook it up to the harness, should be some instructions with your tach for that year.

I found some directions for installation of a mini tach on a 2003 or newer dyna and found that there is not a tach output wire in the harness. The newer bikes communicate between the ignition module or ECM on J1850 wire which is ltgreen and violet and then converts the information inside the instrument. The good news is that pin 3 on the speedo is not used but it has the signal that you need to hook up the yellow wire from your tach. You would need to put a pin into this connector.:) If the tach that you are trying to hook up is a Harley part number, you could get a copy of the instructions from your dealer. All the service department has to do is go on line and print out the directions.:D Good luck
