Yes, groatmeal. We got groats in bulk at a health food store an hour away. Humble hollister has no granola outlets.

Not the gourmet of the breakfast burrito, but real healthy, and a time saver done right.

Breakfast for 4 (mom and dad, two ittle boys):
1 1/4 cup groats (whole oats)
    4 cups water

Put it in the crock pot the night before, give it maybe 8 hours on low. Get up in da morning, add your favorite fruit. Fast, easy, delish. We use the organic berry mix from Costco until our local strawberries start happenin, or the farmer's market opens in May.

The texture is different from standard oatmeal. In a good way.

Can you tell I like breakfast?

Cool. Wasn't sure how big a risk I was taking pitching out the "O" word. When we can afford it we get organic produce from a local cooperative (and we're not even commies!). Never sure what's on some of the food these days. One of two raw milk dairies in california is about 12 miles from us also.

I drive my hubby crazy with organic. I get as much as possible and that we can afford organic too. We have an organic farm actually about 15 miles from us and they are actually located right down the road from my organic egg man! I have learned so much about the things that they do to our food and no thanks, I will do the best that I can to keep my body healthy.

    Groatmeal.. interesting...

BTW not stepping on toes but Organic isn't really
all it's cracked up to be, If you want to buy it that's great but
in reality Organic growing isn't better for the environment, or, always
better for the economy, you end up paying a lot more for the same food
and end up getting nothing in return but personal satisfaction...

    The Scoop on Organic Foods

If you want true organic best bet is to grow your own...

I'm not a big fan of the Times but they
have good writers, you'll be amazed what he discovered
about "organic" it's not always what it seems.

Best bet is corner veggie stand at least the money is
    going back local...

yea, most of my stuff comes from the local folks. I understand that all organic isn't what it is cracked up to be but if you find the right connection and just don't buy whatever because it says it's organic then your good.

Organic - when the cows dump directly on the plants..

Non Organic when the cow dung is processed through a machine
then dumped on the plants by illegal mexicans

Basically all Organic is that it is a certification that is supposed to garentee that there wasn't any pesticides or herbicides used while the they were being raised. Big Big loophole!!!

I like organic food and I do much prefer to eat that. I had a huge conversation with a buddy of mine the other night about this very subject. Preservatives is what is bad for you, and the bad thing is that we almost have to use them in order have a continuous food supply. Our countries climate is so different from one region from the other that it makes it difficult to have a steady stream of anything.

JMO Organic and Environmentally in the name means you're getting bent over a counter and your wallet picked a little deeper.

Most of the stuff that is supposed to be free range, isn't and things that are
supposed to help the environment end up being a waste.

Not that I'm against keeping the planet clean and air fresh, water clear,
just lets do it in a responsible way that allows business and the environment to work
    together.

They don't have to use them, the gov chooses to use them. There is other alternatives that are safer for humans and the enviornment.

The gov just wants us to die because of over population. How about getting rid of the illegals?!:roflmao:

Like I want them picking it anyways, whenever they feel the need to take a piss they do it on our veggies. If I remember right it was the lettuce recall that was due to the morons taking a piss in the field. Piss on them!

Good call on the illegals! Commercial farmers pretty much have to use those chemicals in order to protect their product, not a government thing. People that grow "organic food" are the ones that are subjected to the regulation, that is why it is more expensive. Those farms are usually much smaller than commercial as well.
