I mean TRANNY LID! Just posted this on the shovelhead forum, boys, but since I can't seem to get pics posted there, thought I'd try you guys out - and with a pic, too!

It's leaking right where the pencil is pointing. Can't find any info on how to fix this, or even what it is that's leaking, except to say that it's on the kicker side of the lid. After a ride there is oil pooling on the tranny and it seems to be coming from the recess. There's a cup shaped plug in it.

I looked through my manual and parts book...only thing I can guess is it may be is where the neutral indicator switch would be...if it's a slotted screw it's a vent screw...

No slot. There doesn't appear to be any way to get it out. Strange . . . I guess the oil could be comihg out of the vent screw, which is located right below it, but it seems like a lot of oil escaping for a vent screw.

I'll see Tattoo about this next time I'm in town.

awl moves around on a bike.

You can have a leak on the rear pushrod on the right
and find oil on the left side of the bike. Wind moving it around.

It could be you're overfilled on the tranny and it's coming out
    when overheated/very hot.

Ain't that the truth...had a stator plug weep, oil was dripping off the back of the primary, thought it was a shifter shaft seal...

looks like you are pointing to the shifter shaft, where it exits the case. can't see it well enough, but it should be sticking out a little. may have a seal weeping. it all looks good and clean though. nice looking shovel stuff...:)

It is the shifter shaft. It's not sticking out but rather inset about a quarter inch. No oil on hoses.
Tattoo says to clean it up and fill the hole with black silicone and let cure 24 hours, so that's what I did. I'm going to take the vent screw out today and inspect it to make sure it's venting. Oil level is good - about 1 1/2 pints. There is a screw in the side of the case that you can remove. Set bike straight up and see if any oil comes out - oil level should be at the level of the screw. Did that already.

Going to be rainy the next few days so I won't be riding till Friday - then I'll see if it still leaks.

your oil seal goes in the second groove on shaft, the end groove lines up outside the case. dont know how the locking screw made it in its slot with it in that position. just finished mine, thats the only reason i know this for sure. best of luck. just set my tranny in the frame tonite...yea...:)

Well, I filled the hole with black sillycone and let it cure a few days. Took it out for about 50 miles and no leak. Guess that problem got fixed, but now there's another one: a new leak at the tranny main shaft seal. Don't know how long it's been going on, but Tattoo found it.
I put that seal in new about a year ago, and now with 500 miles on the bike, it's leaking. Seems like this is a common problem with the older 4 speeds. It's not bad - yet. Well, I was going to take the clutch apart anyway to install a retainer, so might as well do both at the same time . . . .

Today, Easter Sunday, I'm going to put 5/16" flat washers under all my engine case nuts. Seems my rebuilder didn't see fit to use any. Tattoo says put 'em in, the sooner the better. I believe the torque on those nuts are 22 - 26 ft. lbs., but not sure. Anyway, I'm not going to be able to get a torque wrench on all of them. Tattoo says don't woory about the torque, just get 'em real tight. Hmmm . . .

Pretty good. I got all the flat washers on, torqued to 26 ft. lbs. Now it's on to other things . . . .
