2001 Roadking with 45k miles. Stock. Put Mobile one in it at 40k.
at 41k on a trip to CA, engine started tapping. Sounded like a weak lifter. Listened for a bit and finished trip. Last fall engine would begin tapping at 3500 rpm. Plan to inspect cam chain tentioners. Is there easy way to check lifters. Any other thoughts?

At that mileage, I would just replace them, 76 bucks will get you a set of 4, harley b lifters from Zanotti or 100 bucks from your local dealer and then you can eliminate that as a possibility and definetly check your tensioners, if they are bad you may consider switching to the new hydraulic tensioner or gear drive if your runout is in spec and as long as your that far may consider cams hardly any more work. I know a domino effect, Todd

I think with the 203 cams 10.5 is too much , It will most likely ping like crazy, Todd

where you running a dino oil before you put in the mobil one? if so the synth oil will clean out the sludge build up of the dino oil. the sludge buildup kinda fills the gaps, the synth oil cleans out the sludge then the noises start. the synth oil does the same with gaskets and seals, cleans the sludge and the synth leaks out the clean spots.
