Good News: I have been following a texting case since December 2012 where an 18 year old was texting and making phone calls. He went over the double line, hit someone head-on but did not kill her. His friends also said he had a few beers but that was never proved. He was sentenced to five years in June and appealed twice. He lost both appeals and will start his five year term next week. Superior Court Judge said this sort of ignorance and stupidity will not be tolerated. I hope you have learned something. Take responsibility for your actions. Hope he likes prison sex.

Bad News: In todays paper there was a story about a 35 year old woman who was texting, driving on a suspended license and crossed two lanes hitting a 58 year old welder returning home from work. He was ejected and pronounced dead at the scene. Several witnesses said she was texting and her car veered all over the road. She has been charged with vehicular homicide. Maximum penalty is only 10 years though. She will be out when she is 45 assuming she gets the full 10 years. That is not justice in my book.

They need to turn off texting in phones when the GPS sees 10 MPH or greater

They shouldn't be texting at all.

I like the idea but then passengers in the car will complain...But then again, I could care less what the passengers think...How about they have a conversation or something?

Exactly, you could let texts come in, or if they have a voice to text app in the car or headset, where it's read to them and they dictate back, that's not much different than talking to a passenger, listening to the radio or on the phone.

It's the looking down to type that's the issue.

Thing is when the car stops at a light you can text because the gps senses no movement...

I'm not for government intervention into lives but in this case it's stupid
people hurting the smart people by texting and driving...

You ever seen a car load of girls having a conversation in a car. Heads, arms and hands going every direction at the same time. Just as bad or worse than texting. How about we just pay attention to what's going on around you while your driving.
