Mixed feelings about these. They are banking heavily on the nostalgia these newer bikes are based on. Something "old" (styling), something new (modern technology). Not a bad idea, but the newer bike will never be an original.

See the clip where the vintage Indian is riding alongside the newer one? Of course, they show the newer one pulling away from the older bike. I'm sure it's a lot faster and more reliable. But if you gave me a "choice" which one I would prefer, it would be the older bike. It has earned it's place in history.

It's a modern motorcycle that happens to resemble an Indian . . .

Yeah but you could say the same for HD...

ANd if you had to make a cross country trip the Newer models
would be the bike of choice...

I like the new Indians, look great, 111CUI engine...

I agree, saw them in Sturgis, now this is just my opinion, BUTT ugly. Nostalgia looking, yes but I never liked them then. If I were to buy something other than a Harley I'd go with the Victory, they have some nice looking models, and they run great and are proven reliable.

I'd buy one in a noo yawk minute, it's got history and tradition
and it's not an HD, not that there is anything wrong with HD
but they are working on tradition as well, and competition is good

Competition is what drives innovation!! PERIOD!!!! I agree. Although I do not believe that HD will sweat in any way shape or form. Victory is slowly making a good name for themselves and that hasn't forced HD to change anything really. JM observation.

I bet there was that certain element that said the same thing when the shovelhead came out Josh. Not all old things are better. They are just easier to work on. Technology can be a PITA sure, but it is designed to make the experience way more enjoyable. Does that always happen? Of corse not, but when do the older things always deliver everything that the user desires as well? Oh, how can you not like the looks of that engine, reminds me of the panhead.

They had said in the video that the 111 CI engine puts out 119 ft. lbs of torque. Ok, can you imagine what potential that has with the bike tuned properly?:D

Prices really are not bad, a New Heritage Softail classic which is close to the Chief is $17,600 MSRP. The New Chief is $20,900

THe difference being the Chief comes with chrome forks, controls, levers, bars and a lot more, and the Chief has a real Leather seat and real leather bags, the softail has a pleather seat black controls, non chrome forks etc.

The Chief comes with cruise control as well, the Softail doesn't.

Chief comes with a 111CUI 120 HP engine, the Softail with a 80 HP 103.

I think when you get down to the details the difference of $3300
is made up with a lot more options, power, new engine new design
    better materials.

Shoot I have been thinking of selling the CVO this year, doing a trade
but they are not going to make the RG next year, maybe I'll go put
a deposit on an Indian Chief.. Roadster Red with Tan seat and bags..

It does sound like a lot of motorcycle for the money. But I remember when you could buy a brand new 4 bedroom home for 20 grand.

Real leather & extra chrome & red paint is a hard combination to beat! Unless it's black LOL.

That too, I'm thinking selling the CVO, get the Indian Chief, wear a headdress and war paint for a year and see if the new HDRG is better,

Probably end up with the CVO and have Kirby help increase power LOL.
