Originally decided to paint the inner faring, and having little
painting experience that didn't involve a brush, roller and drop
cloth, well I figured at the worse I can use sandpaper and paint
stripper to get it to a real painter.

Talked with Chucktx and he helped me through the process
with several PM's and always had a helpful hint, which I appreciated.

One important thing, don't have a paint booth, and no spray gun
although the one at harbor freight went on sale, and I should have
jumped on it, the goal was to rattle can this sucker just to say I did...

So pulled it apart, and there is a lot to take off an RG.

Got the paint color matched at a local jobber for paint, picked up
the requisite primer, paint and door jamb clear. First pass went fine
but had some bumps and marks show up around the gauge pod area.
Weather was cold for FL in the 30's figured maybe it was that, all the small
bits went off fine, sanded, base and clear, just a little bit of polish with
2000 grit and hand polish and they were fine.

The main part was a PIA, it kept having issues foggy clear (weather not letting the clear do it's chemical thing) or the bumps.

Finally we figured out that the bumps were from the plastic in that particular area (none of the other parts or rest of the inner faring) were coming from
a reaction of the clear and the plastic.

So stripped it down again and new primer, and it's done.

Some wet sanding and polish, and then some wax to keep
the finger prints down and paint protected here in the FL sun

Perfect, no there are a few spots on the interior
but for now, it's on for bike week and fine.

I can make it easy for you now that I've done it..

Be sure to use a sealer primer first, not all plastic
parts respond well to regular primers, I think Chucktx
    recommended Bulldog sealer primer,

If you are going to rattle can, you can get
color matched at most paint jobbers

The etching primer was suggested by another
guy that paints these all the time, and in 95% of the
area and parts it was fine, but there was two
areas by the gauges that gave me fits.

The middle can is the color, they can match
up and make spray cans, one rattle can should
do you fine for your inner faring and cap.

The clear is door jamb clear, it does work
and gives a decent shine and polishes out
well, You want to be sure to put on two
medium wet coats, let dry, wet sand with 2000
and then polish with a hand glaze or machine
glaze if you have a small polisher like 5 inch..

You should be able to do it in a weekend

My problem is everytime I try to rattle can something I always get runs :gah:
I know I put it on to heavy. :banghead: Plus my shop is to cold right now for much painting.
I wonder can they copy the Cherry metal flake red or the metal flake Merlo?

So Hotroadking, you went to a place that does automotive paint and gave them the paint code number from your bike.

Correct. They crossed and had the formula for vivid black. It matches right up

You can get runs on the primer or base coat but it drys quick as long as you don't stay in one spot and keep moving you would be fine

    Clear can run easier

runs can be sanded back and re done. clear runs can be sanded back and polished.....really not a big problem. the biggest problem is not sealing the plastic.

    Slightly understated LOL!

The Sealer is the key, amazing though I had two one inch square parts
that bubbled. Other than that no issues

I will post some more progress pictures.
