That's to bad that cougar had to be killed as they are a beautiful animal. We call them either Mountain Lions or Cougars here. We have three cats in our house and they are pretty mild. We do have Cougars in our area and one was tranquilized not to long ago and then moved to a wilderness area.

So then we should go out and kill all animals that have the potential to kill a human no matter where they live.

Mother nature made predators to take out the weaker of a herd to make it stronger. As time has gone on people have changed the rules, hunting for sport is big money for anything from Bass pro to firearms companies. I have no interest to shoot any animal unless I need food. Sport hunting should be give the hunted and hunter an equal chance to survive or die, maybe then it would not be so attractive to many.

Didn't mean it that way. I assumed (shouldn't assume) that the cougar was in a human infested area. I do put humans before animals IF the animal is a potential threat. That cougar wouldn't hesitate if a child was near it.

Your right. I raised my sons that we don't kill the fish unless it's legal and they will eat it. (Catch and release) I don't hunt it's hard to shoot and release). BUT, man has changed the most of the world. Man is spread out and we were given "all creatures to rule over" How far back do you want to live? Saber tooth tigers? Velociraptors? Not for me and mine.

If that cat was near my house where my children play in my backyard, I'd say either catch it and relocate or kill it so my children don't become game.

In New Jersey there is a black bear problem. They have attacked people due to the population of bear and people. Should the people leave?

We could relocate the people to Florida, oh that won't work, there's gators there and HRK!
All I'm saying that if it comes down to a choice of a person or potential people killer animal, I vote against the animal. Unless of course if the people killer animal is along our borders or the mideast.

Fatboy I see your having a heat wave today :)

As for New Jerky if anyone got a rifle out to defend themselves against a bear they would be thrown in jail for having a firearm and never get out.

No we have a stupid people problem...That foreigner from Rutgers that was killed by the bear a few months back did all the wrong things and was clueless as were his friends...Make noise, NEVER look a bear in the eyes and above all NEVER run which was got him killed...Run and you are viewed as prey...Bears will be bears...This was also very rare as black bears back here usually run like hell from people and I think they said it had been 50+ years since a person had been attacked/ killed by a bear...As I said people back here are stupid and do things like cook pies and leave them outside to cool down...That will draw any animals attention...Bears are here to stay...Hunters are trying to use the recent attack as a reason to increase the annual bear kill quota but are having a hard time which I view as a good...

As far as guns go...If they are registered as mine are you will have no problem...Castle Law is also recognized in NJ...
