i have a 05 herratige softtail and the spokes came loose and whiped out the hub. i took it to the dealer and he told me that i did not have him do the services and he would not warrenty the hub. So i went down and bought a mag rim from a fat boy (05) that way the back does not have spokes. when i went to install it, now it is to skinny and it is 1 and 1/8" skinnier than the spoked rim. i talked to the dealer and he said they should both be the same size but it is not and i measured the mag and it is not as wide as the spoked rim. i do have the 2 spacers that came on the bike but i need to add just a little over an inch more to make it fit. does this sound right or am i missing something. it has to be a 2000 or newer rim cause it has the 1" axle fo it. should i just buy some more spacers for it?

    Cut yer own!

If you have access to a chop saw, you can cut your own. Go to your local aftermarket scoot shop and buy a 6 inch piece. Prior to cutting the Stainless up, mock it up with 1" PVC. Don't try to just make up for the difference, re-do 2 new ones. Once you get the measurements right with the plastic, make ready for cutting the steel. Keep WD-40 on hand to cool the metal during the cut, use it frequently and TAKE YOUR TIME! After the cuts are made, allow them to air cool. After that, you can round the edging of the new spacers on the edge of the chop saw blade. Got it?

First of all that dealer cannot void the warranty only HD the manufacturer can, and he cannot require you to do service at his place unless he gives it for free, he's violating several FEDERAL LAWS!

Most importantly the Magnusson Moss Consumer protection Act. :D

Call Harley Davidson Motor Company Customer Service immediately and report the damage and the dealers exact wording.

HD can get sued for this
The dealer should get sued, one wonders how many people have paid for work that should have been done under warranty.

To speak with a Harley-Davidson customer service representative call
    (414) 343-4056.

Straight from the MO CO site.

Now Call CS, be nice, they didn't do anything, and tell them you have a warranty issue and you'd like to get clarification, ;)

    1) Need your VIN
    2) Describe the problem in detail
    3) Tell them the dealers name
    4) Ask them if it's normal for dealers to require you to do all maintaince to maintain a warranty, that you thought that was illegal.
    5) Give them the name of the dealer the person that told you that,

My bet is you get put on hold while the motor company calls the dealer and rips them a new a-hole as this could end up with huge federal fines.

They'll come back and ask you when you want to come in and get a new rim.

    Google Magnusson Moss FTC.

A manuf cannot require you to do service at thier dealers or use their materials to maintain the warranty unless they give them to you free of charge.

Second a warranty cannot be voided by the dealer that takes a manuf, the dealer can refuse to do the work until the manuf steps in, and the dealer and you will need to make the case.

A warranty cannot be voided because you have aftermarket parts on the bike, they have to prove the aftermarket part caused the factory part to fail, the rear spokes failing if caused because you have a S&S124 and subjected the bike to abuse, well that could happen

If they drop the rear tire and you have caked rubber all up and inside the fender from entering a burnout contest, then that's abuse and not covered.

But if it simply was a defective part, then you have a case.

    Call the factory,
    Know you rights

And tell us who the dealer is so we can tell the world through the internet.

    Thanks Hotroadking

Had a problem with the stealership / warrenty. They said we/Harley Davidson have no record of service since the 5000 and your bike now has 20000+ on the clock therefore you warrenty is void. :( used your comments and wooosh it was like the storm troopers had landed. "Oh sorry Sir of course we can sort that out for you and yes of course it is covered by warrenty". ;) So thanks again shame my warrenty has now run out!
    Aye Charlieharley
