Hello my fellow bikers. New member here. I ride an 07 Street Glide and it's that time again. I need new rear tires. I have smoothed out the rear Dunlop E3. I have done a little research on three different brands and am looking for opinions. I've done a lot of reading on Michelin CommanderII, Also Metzeler, and Michelin Scorcher. I wasn't happy with the Dunlop E3. However I did get a lot of milage out of them they just seem really hard and felt like they gave me a rough ride.

Others will disagree but some of us including me will not mix tires...

I have heard the Michelin tires are good but I have always stuck with Dunlop. I agree with Marc 55 never mix tires but always put like tires front and rear. I never cared for the Mitz tires just from past experiences with them. I know Cowboy here likes them so its just kind of a personal preference.

    Well, Spring has Sprung

. . . but it still feels like winter around here :gah:. I've never liked the idea of mixing tires either. I use Avons, which I don't think anybody else here uses. I like them because of the retro tread, and also because they have a lower pressure rating than the newer ones, thus, they ride a bit softer if you have a rigid frame. I've been told they don't corner as well as 'modern' tread designs. Anyway, whatever you like, go with. They're all pretty good . . . and welcome to the forum.

I don't like mixing either but sometimes funds don't allow. So is anybody running these brands of tires that can give me likes and dislikes. How's mileage, how about wet weather, tracking, etc.

Yes it does...There have been several articles about mixing tires and the especially the dangers of mixing tires made of soft/hard compounds...

I have always run Dunlops on my 04 GeezerGlide and never had a problem...I watch my tire pressures like a hawk and change the rear every 11,000 miles and front every 16,000miles or so...And that is riding two up most of the time...

Street Glides are known to have stiff rear ends. Has to do with the lowered shocks not tires.

Man don't get started about Metz tires. Had one with only 4000 miles on it come apart on me on Hwy 101 in sweeping corner doing 65. That almost took me out with the violent handle bar shaking and the back end whipping. Ain't never running another piece of crap Metz tire. Dunlop's have always kept me safe.

Years back they had a bad batch of em
    They have been long gone
That's why when a tire is about 60% gone I replace it
Ain't trying to run it forever
    Nothin rides like new rubber

I've used most brands of tires at one time or another. When I was younger and poorer, miles per change meant a ton. Now that I am older and not broke, I like stickier tires. They wear out quicker 'cuz the stick more, but that means they hold onto that hard stuff under 'em better. Just remember, you are trading road-holding for mileage when you go to harder rubber. You can't have both, so ride safer when on harder rubber.

When you weight a lot like chucked and you ride on the edge of the desert and it 101* at 9:00 am in the mornin and you are pulling a trailer behind yer bike
Think how hit the blacktop is
Redneck Chuchtx didn't git the milage he would of liked out of the metzlers tires
The road really burn't em up
Before we got to Lukenback we pulled into a quickmart
    I couldn't find Chucktx
He was in the ice cooler where you git bag ice out to put in yer ice chest trying to cook off
