    How much would gas mileage be affected with a badly worn rear tire?

    actually the slicker the tire the less friction on the road . now if your tire is low on air pressure it would affect the gas millage in a neg way

    Like Paul said its the air pressure. I wouldn't run a slick tire very long though.

    If it's badly worn because it was spinning faster than the bike was moving,that would effect gas mileage in a negative way...lol;)
    Other than that,what BP said:)

    This sounds more logical to me. Yep, I have some investigating to do. I need to readjust my drive belt and put new rubber on. If that doesn't cure my worries I may need to redo my engine.

    Simple, put a new tire on and then adjust your belt.

    I would think if it was spinning the tire or slipping the clutch or belt you would notice the RPMs flaring at times, especially enough to make it harder on gas. Is it the vagina bike ;) or the other? If it the twin cam, is it possible the tuning you recently had done is the culprit?

    Not sure where you are inferring such conditions from asking a question about tire tread???
    :confused::confused:

    Well, just going by your mention of replacing tires and adjusting drivebelt, possibly then rebuilding engine! Reading your posts in the past re. Sportster clutch slipping, and recent tune of Roadglide, maybe I have assumed too much!
    Getting back to the original idea, a worn tire would be a smaller circumference than a new one, would possibly lower final gearing a hair, (or a split hair?) and I guess this would make it burn a thimbleful of gas more than normal, but now we are into theoretical stuff way beyond my abilities. I guess buy some tires?:confused:

    I would be more concerned about getting a new tire...

    At one point I had a nasty noise coming from the primary side and it started right when I went to the Night Dragon tires. I had Derek loosen the drive belt to see if it would go away. Well we figured out what that issue was and we fixed it. During the fix, Derek never retightened the belt. Yes I need a new rear tire. I just made the appointment for that. Let's see what this combination does. Grrr.

    LOL... This is what I meant by the tire spinning faster than the bike was moving...and your miles per tank would suffer too....been doing any of this JB??

    I don't see what your problem is after what I just went through you ain't got a problem. Get the tire replaced and at the same time they will properly adjust the belt. Then you can go ride. :D
