Tough tank restoration

    :witsend: After discovering my existing tank liner (applied by a previous owner, obviously done improperly) had totally seperated from the interior of the tank i faced a difficult decision about replacing tank. This was something i didnt want to do at all due to custom paint which I was quite fond of and the fact that the "management" did not see fit to allot the financing after sinking nearly $1000 dollars into my low budget commuter, the decision was made to try to re-line the tank. After much effort to prepare and clean the tank I was unable to remove all existing liner. After washing and agitating (both the tank and my back) with industrial degreaser and a handful of nuts, I soaked it with the acid provided with the kreem tank liner kit I purchased. This did nothing to remove the old material but did wonders for the rust. The following step, designed to etch the tank for final coat, started taking liner off in globs! I have rinsed and agitated with the "MEK" that the kit uses like half dozen times now and can still see liner remaining! This makes me very apprehensive to attempt final coat which the kit recommends immediately follow the MEK wash. I am worried any remaining material will contaminate the new coat and I will end up the same problem or even worse! After discussing this with a brother who doesnt have any sort of liner and added "Thats what filters are for.", i.e. to deal with the inevitable rust on tank interior. I am considering just running the tank in the state its in, considering its a helluvalot better than it was and dont see the liner being effective. Now the question i have is this a bad idea to leave interior raw and prone to rust, what can i apply to tank interior to try to prevent rust that wont be washed off with gas?? Is there any hope for this being accomplished?? Do I just run it and say eff it? Or do i try to apply liner material in hopes it will cover and hold remaining liner material? Stressed to the max since this is the second time the bike has been down due to gremlins and maintenance issues neglected by previous owner!:cussing:
