For those of you that deal with slip-ons a lot (resale or dyno operator), or if you own one of these and have heard another slip-on, how would you rank them for loudness? Preferably with a dual setup (seeing that going from stock headers to Dresser Duals increased the noise of my SE IIs a good bit) rate these slip-ons from the quietest to the loudest (i.e 1, 4, 5, 3, 2…..) Please rank them based on your experience even if it involves a couple of these slip-ons.

    1. Screamin' Eagle II
    2. Vance and Hines Oval Slip-ons
    3. Bub Dresser Dogs
    4. Cobra 4” slip-ons
    5. Hooker tuned flow mufflers
    6. Kerker Slip-ons
    7. Python 3 ½” Slip-ons
    8. Samson Silver Bullets
    9. D&D 3 ½” Big Boss Slip-ons
    10. Khrome Werks HP+

Additionally, if you have the knowledge or experience with various slip-ons, rank them for performance or how they felt to you. To be able to look at these results later on rank them as follows:

    Sound: 1,10, 5, 4, 2, 3, 6, 8, 7, 9
    Power: 9, 5, 4 ,3, 2, 1, 8,10, 7, 6

    Thanks!

P.S. The goal here isn't loud or quite for me....just a comparison of all the slip-ons (yes I know all the different slip-ons aren't listed, but these seem to be the most popular).

    Update...

I'm looking for ranking against other slip-ons you have owned or listened to. This will make a great reference for people looking for slip-ons. I see these forums all the time with these questions..."I want louder or quieter"... the responses I see are "I installed X brand of slip-ons and they are a lot louder"...ok louder than what? So, if you have owned a couple of the above slip-ons, compare the two or three or whatever. If a buddy is using one and you are using a different one, how do they compare in Noise and Power to each other.

    Overwhelming repsonse!! Part 1

Well since I didn't get the data I was looking for, I found a post from another forum that had a link to a a great comparison of 2-1 and 2-2 exhaust. The bike was a Night Train. It didn't list the partculars of the bike but I believe it had a 95" kit. All of these pipes were installed tested and dynoed.

Points of Reference *measured in dBA or decibels:
0 The softest sound a person can hear with normal hearing
    10 normal breathing
    20 whispering at 5 feet
    30 soft whisper
    50 rainfall
    60 normal conversation
    110 shouting in ear
    120 thunder

    Common items rated in decibles:
    80 pop-up toaster
    80 doorbell
    80 ringing telephone
    80 manual machine, tools
    85 handsaw
    80 - 90 food mixer or processor
    80 - 90 blender
    80 - 95 garbage disposal
    90 tractor
    95 electric drill

So do you lose out with 2-2s?

A lot of people debate losing power with 2-2 pipes versus 2-1 pipes. The above results are a great examples of a broad range of pipes on one bike. Here are the averages....not really enough to debate about from what I can see.

    2-2
    Average HP: 92.3
    Average TQ: 96.98

    2-1
    Average HP: 92.41
    Average TQ: 98.1

I have a 95" in a night train. 510 S&S Cams. Home brew heads with a comp ratio of 9.5-1. S&S E Carb. Crane ignition, and a Rinehard 2-1 header. I run a plug gap of .060 and produce 102.36 RWHP. As a side note I still get about 38 MPG crusin at 75-80. I'm happy with it.

    ????stock stats???

Those were stats with stock "B" engines for HP?
they seem a bit high to me....Are ya sure the owners had done other performance enhancements other than pipes and Air cleaners?

    Linked article

The link I had found in another forum was to Part 5 of the American Thunder Night Train build. Part 4 was installing several 2-2 pipes and part 5 covered 2-1 pipes. It didn't mention what they had done in parts 1, 2 and 3. It was also done a while ago through SpeedVision.com, which is now Speed TV, and I haven't been able to find the other articles. So this could be an 98 or 99 EVO version or a 2000 - 2005 TC88 version.

Ok it's 15 minutes or so since this post. The bike was a 2000 Night Train. It's amazing what you can find with a good search engine (altavista.com). Here is a link to the entire article with the 1st 4 of 5 parts: American Thunder Night Train Build Parts 1-4

Here is a link to a better version of part 5: Word Document version of Part 5
