Took my bike in for the 20K service and they found that the tranny seals were leaking. Just hadn't gotten to the point of the bike "marking it's spot" but was bad enough to need replacing. When the service tech got into that part, he found that one of the shafts had too much end play and was wearing the bearings so long story short they are essentially doing a rebuild. The bike went out of OEM warranty the 5th of November but I took a three year Extended just prior to that so all is well. I asked the Service Manager to check with Harley to see if they would let them just replace with a new tranny. He said Harley can be funny about things like that. That most of the time Harley will let them replace only what is bad but he's going to check and argue as much as he can. I told him that I would appreciate whatever he could do. Anyhow just wanted to let you all know in the event that you have the same thing to show up.
Incedently I had just changed out the liquids before taking it in and was trying Redline in the tranny and man did it smooth the tranny out. Reckon I'll be gong back to the SE 20-50 for a spell or at least that what will be in it following the repair.

On my 08 EG, I was puttin Amsoil SVO 75-90 gear oil in it.
I started hearing a roaring sound. When I got on the interstate and was runnin 75 or above I heard it more.
Took it to the dealer 2 months before the 2 yr warranty ran out.
It has like 26,000 on it.
They took it out for a ride. Said they tore into it and all the bearings in the tranny had to be replaced.
The kinda didn't like gear oil in there with all the bearings.

I went back To SE 20-50 Synthetic oil.
And thats what i'm gonna stay with in my new bike..

Well say what you want, been running Redline in all my bikes for years with no problem. Tranny shifts a lot smoother on all of them. Got 40,000 on the springer, no leaks either. :D

I'm going to talk to some of the tech in the indy's and get theri ideas on Redline vs. SE. I sure did like the smoothness of the Redline shifting though.

My 2011 FLHTK sure does shift smoothe as a baby's ass with SE oil.
Got a 5 yr warranty on it, just in case. And its suppose to be like the 10 model. All the gears going the same direction.

With the end play being the problem with the bearing wear, it sounds like it was bad from the factory. I'm anxious to see if it's different after the rebuild.
