Saturday when under heavy acceleration in 5th gear it acted like it slipped out of gear and had ticking noise.
I slowed a little and it reunited.
I was easy with it till I got a mile from the barn, then I threw the coal to it and same thing happened. I slowly down shifted and it caught.
Gonna go out tonight and see if it will do the same in other gears.
Assuming there could be bent forks.
Anyone have anything like this happen?
    Any ideas?

Had a couple of minutes last night and started it up, bad noise when i put in first gear.
went ahead and pulled the cover and shifting cam, nothing actually fragmented.
i got thinking, i spun the clutch hub on my shovelhead years ago, sheared the key.
I'm going to peak at it tonight before diassembling the tranny.

When I read your post that you were going to take it out again my first thought was your going to be buying a new tranny, so glad to hear your going to open it up cause something is wrong inside the tranny.

I took it apart Wed. eve, gears and forks looked good. Primary look great. Nut that holds secondary drive looked good also except it was dangling on the imput shaft. Pulley ate all to hell. Went ahead and got a 34 tooth. Road Saturday. I thing I like the taller ratio.

I changed the pulley a couple of years ago. had hell of a time geting the factory applied locktite RED broke loose.
I put it back without any locktite assuming the keeper plate would hold.
guess what? I went ahead and put it together this time with BLUE.

they use red for a reason LOL

If it comes loose again (blues ok but not the right stuff)
put it back on with red.

TO loosen something with Red loctite heat it with a torch
for a short time, the dry loctite that is holding
the part will turn liquid and loosen up...
