On another forum they posted a article about the HD tranny problems .

Git a Copy of the Thunder Press and look on page 60

The article is long and detailed, but essentially what the auther (Motohead) is saying is that using the wrong oil will destroy the plastic retainer, and wiping out the bearing. He is doing a follow up article next month.

Well its like this, its not on page 60 or 61 , its on page 90 of the march issue

And with Pnuemonia I rode 50 miles to a dealer that had a copy.
And it seems that they want you to run 20-50 Synthetic oil in your tranny.
Its better than gear oil and will get along with all the extra parts in the tranny

You couldn't pay me to run that SYN 3 crap ever again in my tranny. Tried it once and had to many Metal shavings on the magnet. :cussing:

    Yer bike, yer tranny
I didn't write the article. Kip Woodring did.
I posted what Thunder Press put out.
Think you need a March 2012 copy of your own to read. It has a lot of talk about it. And by the 21st of this month there is going to me another article about what kinds of oil.
What you do with it is up to you.
I know I ran nothin but SE SVO Oil in my 07 and never had a tranny problem/
Hear that on the 2012 they have what is called a neutral rattle. Its not in all bikes but it has showed up.
Nothin to worry about. And the sound goes away after you put it in gear.

I had to have the seals replaced in mine on the 20K service (warranty covered) and I had switched to Severe Gear a couple of changes back. So I reckon I'll stay with SYN 3 cause the tranny is shifting smoother and neutral is easier to find. May be "happen stance" but that's just my exerience.

At 47k when my clutch pushrod beering puked, my indy opened up the tranny and showed me several beering cages(plastic) had come apart. Maybe the lube was the cause. I allways used a quallity brand/wheight lube. Now using Redline trans.oil.

The article was saying the kind of oil that you used might of had a chemical in it that distroyed the spacer bearing made out of plastic.
There is gonna be another writeup by the 21st of this month.
One thing they was saying is not to use Gear Oil in the tranny on the 6 speed.
    But its yer choice

I wonder if this guy who wrote the article was paid by HD. Redline oil is a very proven oil and has worked for me on all my motorcycles. Mobil 1 V- Twin SYN oil is far superior to syn3

I've been using Mobil 1 V twin in engine for a long while. They also had a Mobil 1 marked "For Harley Davidsons" But I couldn't find it for last oil change. 'Suspect moco had something to do with it's disapearance. ??
