A big "Hi" to everyone out there from my side of the pond. :)

Spring has sprung here and its time to change the fluids. There appears to be lots of info here on oil spec but never exactly what you want.
My manual says to use "HD Sport Transmission fluid" in my 2001 883 Sportster's transmission but lets just suppose I don't want to pay Stealer prices. After all it would have had to come along way from Milwaukee to get here and I'm thinking of my carbon footprint (ha ha, read wallet).

Builds of up to 1984 it says 20W50 which I can get my head round. 1984/85 it says "HD chaincase lubricant" (What the heck is that?) and from 1986 onwards this "HD Sport Trans Fluid".

Anyone know the grade of this is? I drive a high performance BMW diesel and was going to use the oil I have for that in the engine but what do I stick in the transmission.

    Cheers guys.

You can use a quality 75-90 gear oil with the Limited slip Differential additive pack in it... it'll say "suitable for wet clutches" on the bottle. That's what the HD Sport Trans Fluid was.

Sounds good Lucifer. BTW do you know your head is on fire?

I think I have some EP90 somewhere I used to use in the overdrive unit on my 1965 Sunbeam.

    Cheers,

I think I'd spring for a new bottle...prices are reasonable on stuff without the Harley logo on them...any automotive store should have some.
