Anybody know if these trees will work on my 1983 FXE?
Does the upper shock tube screw into the inserts that protrude from the upper tree or are special shock tubes req'd to work with these trees?
    Thanks.

Who makes them looks like the upper has threads so you twist the fork onto the threads which acts as the cap

So I would remove the caps that are in the forks now and just screw the forks into the threaded upper tree?
Do you know if Harbour Freight sells a tool for this job??

    Dunno? never heard of them...

I would imagine that yes you remove the threaded cap bolts and
then push the uppers into the forks, screw them on by turning the forks until
    tight.

Not sure what tool you would need...

A strap wrench. How else would one unscrew the caps off the tubular forks?
    Duh! Are you new here?

I just use the proper socket......
if they are still in the old trees you have to take the
cap off to get the fork out.

The cap on mine required a large open end wrench
locked them down in the lower fork after dropping the
fork down, loosen, then remove fork from lower tree

Then again when ya remove that cap it's gonna
shoot the spring across the room so wear some glasses....

The caps are off and the forks are out of the trees. Now how do I take off the top of the upper fork tube?? I think a strap wrench and a open socket will take off the tube cap.

slide fork back in lower tree only
    tighten pinch bolt.
Take tool, loosen upper fork spring cap..

Or fashion some kind of holder to protect the upper toob
put in bench vise, then remove upper toob cap

easier to do when in the forks...

    yep,

It appears that the upper Triple will be the new cap retaining the spring? at least it looks pretty wide, or is the upper just replacing the cap bolt..

You will want to change out fluid while you have it out anyway...

You may need help, someone to hold the fork in place, put the end on a towel or rag
on the ground then while they hold it upright, you press down and turn the cap into the upper leg.

    Like I said, Pressure,
