FWIU you will need a DT (Scan tool) to properly bleed the ABS
the pump has to be engergized and the fluid pumped out

It's a requirement every two years. MoCo book calls for .6 hour and the fluid...

Checked with some others they say it's a dealer job...

can't because the ABS doesn't activate unless the sensor
determines the front wheel is locked, so you have to
get it working to get the ABS bleed.

I'm thinking it's a dealer job as you have to hook up the Scan tool and
it tells the brakes to purge the ABS system...

still thinking.....if the front wheel is not turning, and the key is on, and you squeeze the brake,,,,would that "fool" the abs system??

I would have to check with dealers
but from what I've read, the pump is electric
the sensor in the brakes is looking for total lock....

    spinning wheel isn't locked...

thanks hrk, i have seen that. i guess my question is what does the digital scan tool do??? in those directions it is telling me that it is checking for leaks, if i am reading that correctly. i am trying to see why we have to take our bikes to the dealer to do a simple brake job or replacement of fluid.

Chuck - talked my MOCO man -he said the reason that they recomend bringing the bike in was because most people don't have a scanner and the cost isn't something the average rider would want to put up with. Sounds a little like buying a car with ECM. Most people wouldn't know what to do even if they had the software to run the error messages.

Here is some info directly from a HD mechanic.

You bleed them just like a normal brake system, THEN go to a dealer and have them perform the ABS service on the Digital Tech computer. The comp cycles the ABS servo to bleed the manifold.

If the h-d abs works like a car, the abs doesn't function below 5 or 10 mph or the vehicle would never come to a complete stop. So trying to fool the abs by holding the lever at a standstill won't work.

I like my ABS braking system, except on those white raised markers. You will skid on those.
