    Hello all.

I own an 05 Softail with the TC88B motor. It has received a set of Screamin Eagle II slip on mufflers and an S&S air cleaner assembly. The carb was completely rebuilt with one of Ken's kits including the accelerator pump upgrade and the velocity stack. After a whole lot of reading, I settled on the 46 slow jet and the 190 main jet.

My question is, how do you tune the slow needle? I have loads of tuning experience with both 2-stroke and 4-stroke outdoor power equipment engines but my Harley really baffles me. Per the direction, I keep my ears open for a stumble when I am leaning out the EZ Adjust but I do not perceive a change until the engine dies from an over lean fuel condition. Typically with small engines I always listen for an increase in RPM as I lean the mixture and a decrease in RPM when I enrichen it but I cannot do that with this engine? Any ideas folks?

generally when you can't get that to happen the jets wrong
change the jet down one size and see if that helps...

You were right all along hotroadking! After reading your reply and after a little head scratching, I went back into the carb (I am getting really good at this now) and determined that I had incorrectly installed a #48 jet instead of a #46. I swapped out the #48 for a #46 which should solve the problem. I have no idea why I installed the #48 in the first place but there it was! Thank you so much for your suggestion.
