    Hello Everyone,

I am restoring a 1986 FLHTC. All stock with the exception of a 32 amp charging system and an S&S Super-E. Finally got it to turn over today and took a quick test ride. My problem is when I put on the turn signal my volt meter drops considerably and there doesn't seem to be enough juice to let the blinkers flash. If leave the headlamp on it's even worse. With head light off gauge shows 14 volts. Any ideas??

    Thanks,

    Pete

short, cut wire, grounding or a bad module.

    do the wiggle test...

    Thanks,

The wiring is all original. Looks like it's tracing time.

the volt meter on the dash may be lying to you.....all gauges are relative.....put a digital on the battery and make sure it is charging also!!

Do you have a digital multi meter?

IF not they are cheap enough at Harbor Freight or lowes
ace etc. and worth their weight in gold.

Using the Service manual, trace the wires for the problem
area. Check for voltage at each connection starting with
the gauge. See if it's the gauge as Chuck said or not.

If you get 12.85 at the meter but 8 at the gauge, well using the same
wire, you have a gauge problem.

Wiggle test means you hook up the meter,
then wiggle the wires, or move the bars,
switch things on and off and trace it back..
