    Hey fellas,
The FM says to remove the pushrods in order to remove and replace the rocker box off of the heads. Do you think that bringing both lifters to the bottom most position at the same time would relieve the pressure from the rockers thus bypassing the need to remove the pushrods???
    Thanks

No need to remove them to change out the rocker boxes.

Remove the plugs, jack the bike, get it in 5th
with the gas tank off and the tops off the rocker boxes
turn the rear wheel (Helps to have a friend do the turning)
until the rocker arms on the front are level (valves closed, back of cam)
Remove the rocker arm assembly and lower box
you won't have to take the pushrods out on the front as you'll have plenty of room

Now once front is done do the rear,
You might have to take them out to get the rear rocker arm
assembly out because it's tight to the frame and not a lot of room
once the rocker arms are out, just lift out the pushrods
remember which is intake (front) and exhaust (rear)
drop them back in when you put the box base back on
then slip in rocker arm assembly, tighten and put on cover

+1 on hrk . And also when reinstalling rocker arm assembly tighten them down a little at a time so as to let the lifters bleed down slow and that way you won't bend the push rods. Make sure your on the base circle of the cam when reinstalling . Give it about 15 min between cylinders before rolling the motor over to do the next cylinder. Then wait. A little while before you start the bike as well . Gotta let those lifters bleed off. And its pretty cold up north and that oil is thick . Down here it takes a half an hour for my lifters to bleed with 50 weight in 80 deg weather so take your time

There ya go...better "how to" posted above than in the manual...Exhaust rod is black oxide color, intake is plain(silver)
A couple of beers and half a cigar between cylinders, couple more beers and finish the cigar before starting and you should be good to go:cool:

They are, exhausts are "black oxide" and intakes are "plain"...according to the Parts catalog... Dark and silver is what I remember them as from last winter,it was one of the things I checked(thought the rods might have been in the wrong holes) before I found my 3lb oil filter:witsend::rolleyes:
