Here it is August, boys, which means there's 3 weeks of vacation left and then back to school. This is the time of year when I begin preparing lesson plans for my shop and art classes.

The enrollment is way down this year because of the proliferation of charter schools in our state. They have been slowly drawing students away from the private schools. Little Hobgood Academy has been a private school since 1970.

Joshbob I recently volunteered(hope I don't regret it) to start teaching the apprenticeship class for union I belong to(yea I know everyone hates the union, not gonna get into that) Will be leaving next week for Michigan for a instructor class, guess to show me how to do lesson plans, ect. Never taught anything before, hope I can handle it. Will be teaching adults (hopefully) so not sure if that will be better or worse :roflmao: Only 2 nights a week and get all the same holidays and summer off the public schools get so won't be too bad.

Sounds good, Brian. Just know your subject matter and you'll be fine. If you have a textbook of some kind, it will help immensely. As for teaching adults, well, they are generally better behaved than kids, right? LOL.

+1 That's the truth! I taught contractors, prof engineers, sales people and architects use and application or construction chemicals. BTW. Architects were the worse. They think they are engineers!
I also taught and guided fly fishing for trout. Men were the worse and women the best.

Didn't know you were a teacher, Fatboy. I wouldn't mind taking some fly fishing lessons from you. I never learned how. I fish with a standard rod & reel and worms I dig up in my back yard.

HI joshbob. My wife's thinking the same thing. She subs and enjoys it becasue she can pick and choose the classes she wants. I enjoy it too because it's another paycheck coming back in. LOL. She started drawing her SS this year so that's another check plus gets a small stipend from her retirement. I believe she will continue to sub even after I retire in October since she still enjoys it and I'm glad she enjoys it. At church today, we gave pencils to the returning students and apples to the teachers. As she got up to get her apple she told the students to get up and come get their pencils that she didn't want to hear this thing about "I don't have a pencil". LOL On a serious note teaching is a nobel task - to train minds of all ages.

Mac the Wife has subbed at the academy here in years past. She knows how to keep the kids in line, too - takes no prisoners LOL. It looks like we start back to school on Monday, the 26th; a little later than usual. Our enrollment is down to only 120 students this year. We mostly lost kids from the elementry grades to the charter schools.

Mac and I were just discussing Ted Williams the other day - one of the greatest players ever, and one of my favorites growing up in the 40s & 50s.

Well, today is the first teacher work day of the year, tomorrow is registration, and Monday is the first day of school. The party's over, boys! The summer just flew by . . .
