Victory Say What?!

    What did I say about victory's reliability a few weeks ago? Here's a photo of a fairly new victory cross county tour on my sons lift. It's in under warranty for a leaking head gasket.

    A lot of variables could cause problem, BUTT looks very labor intensive, to have to strip scooter to that extreme will have Joshbob saying a cresent wrench and a screwdriver is all he needs. OOPS a rock and zip ties also. All in good humor to all.

    Like it was said above - lots of variables could have caused it - most likely scenerio is the owner is a thrasher and didn't keep up the maintenance on the bike - like checking the torque on the heads after break in.

    I like monkey wrenches, screwdrivers and zip ties. Carry 'em in my tool bag along side the bailing wire and duct tape :D.

    The only question I would have is why did they strip it down so far, good grief you have to take the rear and front tires plus fenders off to.

    Yes it all has to come off! Crazy chit. Heck, you know what ya gotta go through to change a front signal light bulb on a can am??? The whole front fairing has to come apart. A buddy has one and it took 3 of us to figure it out since his dealer wanted him to leave it for 2 days! WTH

    the rear fender & tire is still on there , fender is red & mag wheel is there , front end is off though , & did anyone see where HD is recalling a lot of the softails one of the newer models ,It 's on the gas gauge not working right , heck if you don't know how much gas you have stop & get some or park the bike cause your not smart enough to ride

    I agree. I don't have a gas gauge and get along fine without one. But people like their gauges, bells and whistles to work - after all, they paid for them.

    That's crazy all that stuff had to come off the victory for a head gasket. Man.

    I believe the engine is part of the frame kind of like a unibody construction, it provides a better stiffer frame without flex (remember the dreaded wobble of the HD FL series in high speed sweeper curves getting people killed) most newer bikes have the engine as part of the frame, it saves money, weight, and provides a better way to align the engine thus better thrust angles ie, safer.

    How many Victories has your son had to repair like that

    So far, at least. As the big bikes got bigger and were required to carry more and more weight, these problems like high speed wobble, flexing frames etc. became more prevelant. A two wheeled vehicle can only stand so much stress. So now they try to build them like tanks and create other problems - like having to practically dismantle the entire bike to get at a lousy head gasket.

    When HD came out with the 110 it was a massive failure, big engine problems blowing head gaskets took them two years to get it solved, neighbor had a CVO Ultra and it blew the rear head gasket, bike was there for a weekend getting fixed.

    Don't really care what it takes to fix it because the factory is paying for the victory and the tech is doing the work.

    Unless you have to wrench it yourself why would anyone care if you have to take it apart that much.

    That's like saying you'd turn down a new mercedes because it's hard to work on...
