I have a this fxr. I have a drain on the the battery witch I think have isolated to the voltage regulator. It is drawing voltage (5 volts) with everything turned off. is this normal? It is charging at 14.2 volts

No that's not normal , sounds like you have a wire rubbed raw somewhere , under seat or tank or even in the headlight housing

This is an update on the voltage draw. After checking into why I was shorting out regulators (the one on the bike and my trusty spare) is my stator is bad. However it is charging at 14.5 Is why I never bothered to check it. I put an ohm meter on it and it comes out at 0.0. what I can't understand is, is how can it be bad and be charging? A while back I had a battery short out on me, but I have a breaker between my hot on my battery and my voltage regulator. Any suggestions? thanks

0.0 is almost unheard of. Try connecting your meter leads and see what reading you get. Most meters will show .2 to .3 ohms with the leads crossed.

The stator is just a winding of wire and should not have much resistance at all. Be more concerned with the stator to ground ohm reading.

Thanks for the reply.. I ended up up replacing the stator. regulator and rotor ($150 on line,, can't beat it) now my draw is down to .5 volts. Even hooked up the little ground wire on the regulator. On to other things now... both bikes (fxr and road glide have intake leaks.
