    Hi,

Just wondering what any one would advise for the best high performance exhuast for a 2002 1200 custom sportster?

I'm open to 2-2 or 2-1 exhaust....I'm mostly concerned with getting exceptional high performance ....but also would like to have a cool (unique) look and great sound as well.

Just curious what any one would recommend.

    Choices

BULLDOGSKIP, there are just about as many answers to that question as there are motorcycle owners. There are MANY fine and functional exhaust systems out there, so what it really boils down to is what you like. I am a function over form guy, so I’ll take the performer over style; I run a Supertrapp 2into1, my personal choice. If you are concerned with performance than go with a 2into1, that’s not to say you can’t get decent performance out of an 2-2 exhaust. A lot of people prefer the sound effect of the 2-2 over the 2-1.(Someone on another board called 2-1’s “***” sounding). AND we can not forget the dollar factor, which is the limiting factor of a lot of exhaust buyers, you can spend anywhere from $100 to $1000 on a system. If your low on the bucks than go cycle shack, they are a good pipe for the buck. Well enough said. Good-Luck.

The 2-1 systems will definitely give you what you want on the top end. With some systems this may cause a little dip in mid-range torque but if you are running wide open, you don't care about that. Vance and Hines has a great 2-1 system.

Don't discount the 2-2 systems. Some of the stepped header systems on the market give a pretty good boost on top end without suffering so much in the mid-range. They are still second to 2-1 on top end but creeping up.

Power chamber systems tend to flatten the torque peak and broaden the horsepower curve.

These are generalizations and there are always exceptions to the rules. Take your pick... there are a lot of good pipes out there.
