Hey guys. I'm changing out the exhaust on my 05' Heritage Softtail, and have looked at a bunch of different pipes and manufactures. I'm looking for something to provide a nice low rumble, without getting me thrown out of the neighborhood when I leave for work at 5:30 AM. Any suggestions??

    My two cents...

    Sarge,

    My personal opinion...

I've got an '03 Heritage and I put on the Vance & Hines big shots staggered w/power chamber, and I've been very pleased, no regrets. (see photo) I also put on a high flow aircleaner and installed the Powercommander III.

As for upsetting the neighbors, I just idle the bike through the neighborhood in 2nd gear at 1000 ~ 1500 rpm, it doesn't seem to upset anyone, and it gives the bike more time to warm up. Once on the main road I can open it up and go.

The important thing to remember - buy your pipes from Direct Parts, the pipes will sound much better :D

Thanks, I appreciate the info. Funny, those are the exact pipes I was considering! Follow up question, do you have a co-rider, and does she mind the louder pipes?

    Sarge,

She's never complained about loud noise, but she has said that the passenger pillion gets uncomfortable on longer rides, and she strongly hints at how much better it would be if she were sitting on the back of and Ultra Classic.

How do the V & H pipes with power chambers measure up against a 2 into 1?

    Pipes

Well you most likely have already bought them, but I am a Supertrapp guy (2into1) they are tune'able, load or quiet; your choice. JUST DO NOT BUY DRAG PIPES.

    2 into 1

    Hey Killer B,

I bought a set of Screaming eagle 2 into 1's for 100 bucks. They are used but this should help me for a little while.
    Good choice?

    2 into 1

Hmmmm. YES. A 2 into 1 exhaust is the BEST all around performer there is. (my opinion) And you got a good deal. (almost as good as d.p. would have given you ) Good choice.

    Don't do what I did!

Yea my girlfriend said the same thing about the seat on my FXR, so I went out and bought us (her) a Ultra clasic. It is a great bike and it is indeed a smooth ride, but I spoiled her, now it's the only one she will get on.

    Girlfriend ?

Well, well, sounds like you need to get another girl for the FXR.
