My First HD! So got it home and started to tear it down, U know rebuild the motor, rechrome it and new paint job check it all out. Well I notice the vin # on the frame and motor doesn't match, and I 'll be dam, the title vin # don't match to ANYTHING!! what the hell?!?! :cussing: So I when on the internet to check the vin # out. the frame is from something like 76 Fatbob and the motor turns out to be a 1200.....now i run the title vin and get nothing!!! I check with DVM online and run the TITLE NUMBER and its pulls up HD 81 SUP, But Vin # DR138046M0, It doesn't tell me anything about the bike. The vin# from the title. So can tell me what this means? WOW!! I would say that this is a mess. What I would do is take it back to the assshole that you bought it from. If that don't work, call Harley and have them run the numbers that you are curious about.

dont know where your located, but you could have a problem with authorities! i would return goods to previous owner and get my money back.....the authorities frown on folks selling goods with out proper paper work. sounds like you are a victim of this and the authorities may want to talk to the seller.............if ya dont get your money back....

When I was posting on different forum I spoke to an "OutLaw" that was giving me tips on what to look for in these types of situations. I walked away from three different bikes because there were some things that did not add up for me.

This situation describes, Stolen all over it!!

Not uncommon for people to replace an engine
that's fubar'd with one from a wreck, matching frame
and engine vins can occur but you should have two titles
one for the frame = bike = DMV and one for the engine.

In the aftermarket its called an MSO or Manuf Statement of Origin

However I would be inclined to agree with the statements
that you have a problem. I think it would be wise
to return it demand money back.

Just be careful "demanding" from this type of seller! Bring back-up.
