So suppose I don't (cause I don't) turn off my Fuel Valve when the bike is off..............so what? What harm can it do?

Not much really, if it's a stock HD item then it's a vacuum operated
petcock and by design nothing should flow until the engine starts turning.

Now if you have a free flowing petcock, should the float stick, the gas
will flow until its all out of the tank and fill up your engine with gas
or the floor of the garage AND the engine, neither is good.

I've heard someone else say the same thing recently.........a comment about the float failing for some reason, and gas all over the floor. I guess it has some validity, now that I've heard it twice. In any case, I decided to modify my shut down procedure and turn off the Fuel Valve when the bike is not running.

Now watch me forget to turn it back ON, and REALLY be embarrassed!!

If your bike is pre 1995 it's gravity fed and from '95 on it's a Vacuum operated fuel valve, unless you changed valves...If the diaphragm in the Vacuum fuel valve quits working then you only have the float valve to rely on keeping fuel from flooding and possibly washing down your cylinders and filling the bottom end with gas...fuel isn't a good lubricant;)

Plus, if I'm not mistaken, if the float isn't working properly, even while your running you'll have problems.

You guys should look in the Welcome Mat more often. Soupy rides a 98 Shadow 750. Nice bike by the way.

Just bring up his name and click on information, it's all right there. Plus nothing wrong with riding a Shadow as they are a pretty good bike.

A big welcome to you Soupy looking forward to your input and point of view.

Doesn't matter a carb float is a float, a petcock is a petcock

And yes you will drive off and forget to turn it on

Thank you Sir.........pleasure is all mine! I've looked at a lot of bikes, but am not in the market right now. I have my favorites, (if I couldn't own a Honda that is.....lol).
