Well it has been 9 months, 14, days, 6 hours, and 33 minutes............
Since i have last been on bike-talk, (feels like i am at an AA meeting)
no i did noy get devorced, sent to prison, or was shot by a jelous huband.
the thruth of the matter, is huuricane IKE Kicked my Family's ASS!!!!!
But acting likeTexans always do, My family has shown true grit an reziluence in over coming all the obstacles that mother nature, and our government has provided. With the exception of my wifes town car and my 1200 sporty, we lost everything. it has taken longer than i ever thought it would take to be in a position to where i could hold my head high and be content with the provisions to provide for my family. well for the first time in a long while, i am smiling, i am where i want to be, doing what i enjoy. talking bike shop with the fellas........HOT101 IF she's around no ofence intended)

Chuck, Ken, thanks for helping me get back to the best bike forum on the net. Dam i missed you guys............

Glad to see you're back and OK. Sorry for your losses, though - lost a home to a fire years ago and know how that sucks.

May your luck get a lot better!

no sorry's are needed, its a lifestyle that we choose to make. we know any year could be our year to get hit by a hurricane, its a numbers game for sure. but we choose to play, the messed up part, is my fault, most of the toy's i owned we paid off, but not insured there was no way i could afford to carry insurance on everything, wich is on me. the boat, golf cart, jeep, 2 trucks, 2 motorcycles all had bare minimun insurance. and i dont really care about any of them, with the exception of the tour glide. thruth be told i still cry every now an then, when i go downstairs and look at it. yessssss i kept the tour glide and z-71 and the golf cart, for some reason, i just cant seem to haul them off, even if we did have 10 feet of water!!!!
now lets get to the good news, my new house(well its new to me) i own, no more renting!!! the new has a garage, for my bikes.....this house was damaged as well, but the price was right. after a new roof and a new centrel air conditioner, it seems to be working out well, i just finished buying the last appliance last month, and this month i bought a new couch and love seat for myself for farthers day. so its coming together, and this all done with out the help of our government.(f*ck fema, windstorm and yess i am very bitte towards them) but our neighbors and freinds showed why i live in texas. there attitude was screw it, we do what needs to be done and to hell with waiting on the goverment to step in and help!!

words can not express how much i missed you guys, big ole smile on my face..........maybe wiith you'lls help the tour glide might breath life once again, talk about a hell of a project...........

I bet the first thing will be wire harness and electronics!!! THOSE won't survive well in salt water!

nurse you are so right, hanging head in shame...... the tach is stuck on 6 grand and the speedo reads 120 and its parked!!!!! and yes every wire corroded...... i was blessed in one since, that just before the storm i had changed the oil on my work trucks, and stuck the container of used oil in the storage shed, right next to the bike, and just by dumd luck, as the shead flooded it coated the bike with used motor oil.......now about the 12"x12" 6 foot piling that was laying on top of it afterwards is a whole nother story,
but the frame, motor, rims ,tank, have yet to show signs of pitting or corrosion, i think the lord for that........

wires and electrical do NOT tolerate salt well.....tins and such also will not, BUT they are not normally as senstive.....also, they had paint on them in addition to the oil. Motor will undoubtedly have to be pulled apart, cleaned, seals, reassembled....tins....wash and see..... biggest thing for startes is going to be everything electrical.....then go from there.

Nothing to hang head in shame for....other then the lack of insurance coverage....and on that one, everyone must make their own choices. Bet the Z71 is in much the same shape...... Good luck!

nurse, my daughter takes automotive at her high school, this year she won a snap on tool box with tools inside, for scoring in the top 10 percentile on her ase certafacation tests, and she is just a junior.....so i gave her the truck to use as a school project......there is a catch 9 on the tool box, it stays at the school till she graduates,(and its nicer than anything i have ever had)
2 more years to go.........tic toc tic toc.......

Sounds like you have your project for the year.

Get your friends to pop over, help out, cigars, beer, put a small tv in the garage with cable, next thing you know it's 1 am LOL better than running around town and paying the check to the strippers well, kinda,

Put it up on a lift from Sears, $99 or Harbor Freight has a table lift for under $300, just take it apart, label stuff and take pictures (cheapo digital works fine) so you know what goes where.

I'd pull it down to the frame and engine, clean off the painted bits, get them polished and waxed, clean the inside of the gas tank etc.

Next pull the engine, primary and trans apart, good time to RNR everthing, new bearings, seals, hone out the cyl, get a shop to clean the insides up, new valves valve springs, seals, etc.

Just take your time as the budget permits....

Heck I'd love a project bike like that, give me something to do in the evenings and keep me off the sofa and outta the fridge.... LOL
