I found this posted on Facebook by Indian Motorcycle and though some of you would find this interesting.

We came across this 1941 riding guide that was given to the US troops in WWII to help train and remind them of riding basics.

An interesting piece of history and some tips still apply.

Probably all of them. I think they all apply unless you don't have floor boards.

6 & 7 are the only ones that are questionable to me. The heel shifter gets in the way so I don't go back as far as they suggest and I don't hang on with the tank at all. In fact I splay my legs out to get some wind on me in these Texas summers. But the rest are still basically valid.

I keep my eyes a bit further out, but I imagine my bike is a wee bit peppier than the stuff of 70 years ago. I have an old collection of Popular Mechanics from the 30s on up, and this kind of stuff is in them. Very neat to see.

Sure old fire roads, around and to the back of cornfields and even one time a gravel type non road deal. Not all parties are easily accessed.

FL big twins pull flawlessly in the low gears.

Had a friend once was all bragging about how he'd just come off riding down some back woods gravel deal and his bike pulled perfectly. Then as we was heading back into town I heard his motor rev loudly and he pulled off, I followed. Piece of that gravel had lodged on the inside of his drive belt and ripped it in 2. He was done for the day.

Logging roads, roads in to lakes and remote beaches, roads/paths into hunting and fishing cabins and through fields....No motocross riding with them though:D

I'm calling them roads, but they really aren't,more like trails blazed by guys with 4 wheel drives and walking paths that are wide enough for the bike to fit through
