I recently bought a fairly modified 1982 Ironhead Sportster.
After taking the Carb apart I realised it wasn't the original one but a newer 1992 CV Carb (27038-92).

The bike runs pretty bad, it pops, burps and farts all the time.
So I just want to do a full rebuilt and then use a tuner kit. At least I will know what is in there.

Which kit will I need to get?
    - 1982 Ironhead Sportster (1000)
    - S&S Air filter (177)
    - aftermarket "cocktail shaker" pipes.

From what I could see in the carbs this was used (but don't take this as a rule as it doesn't work well at all,
main 165, pilot 70, needle N86E, well that's what I could read anyway. All seems way off so thought I would start from scratch now)

So please any info is welcome on which kit to get. And which extra's as well so I have a full rebuilt available.

Also is it possible to get it sent to Australia, or is there a distributor here?

    Hi Yves,
Yes one of our CVP tuners kits will bring that carburetor current with the needs of your bike. The only thing I find puzzling is your mention of a 70 pilot jet which is not a size ever made for these CV carburetors. I'm assuming you meant the jets were 65 and 170 which is very common.

The kit you would want for your Ironhead is the same as the kit listed for a 89-03 XL1200. This would have the closest jetting for your model and I'd suggest jetting on the lower side of the recommendations (in the instructions).

We ship to Australia though it is very slow. For some reason AUS Customs has been holding packages we've shipped for sometimes a couple weeks, while others get them quicker so it's hit or miss on delivery times.

    Thanks Ken!!!
Will try that kit and some more parts. I was wondering which jets (main + pilot) that kit comes with? So I can order a few smaller and bigger ones (if I happen to change things later)
Might as well while I am ordering.
    Thanks

The kit for a 1200 will come with large enough jets to upgrade in the future should you bore out your 1000 and install larger valves. Jets are 44, 45, 175, and 180. This kit is designed to handle the flow of engines ranging from 883cc (with free flow exhaust) up to 1200cc with stock exhaust/breather. Your setup will likely call for a jetting of 44/175 but could move up to a 45 if still experiencing a lean cough at idle. If you need a size bigger you could add #46 pilot and #185 main jets.

    Thnaks again Ken.
I put in an order yesterday and just want to add the jets and fuel inlet elbow to the order.
Hopefully Australian customs will let this one through without too much delay!
