Waldo Canyon Fire: Wildfire Near Colorado Springs Grows, Moves Toward Homes; 'Highest Priority Fire' In The Nation (PHOTOS, VIDEO)

We are about a mile east of I-25 and Garden Of The Gods road, everything west of the interstate has been evacuated. We are in the first houses east of the highway, we will probably be the next to have to evacuate unless the wind changes direction again. Brought my buddies bike to my house last night. The smoke is pretty bad. The pictures don't show it all, last night from out in front of our house we could see houses burning on the other side of the highway, smoke is to thick to see that far this morning.
We are getting big pieces of ash in the yard, 2" wide x 4" long lucky they weren't hot any more.

HarleysLR was thinking of you last night and am praying you guys will stay safe. You live in a beautiful area and when we meant up with you didn't you take us out through parts of that canyon. Really pray that this fire can be brought under control. You guys need some rain and wished I could send you the rain we had the last couple of days.

HarleysRL..thanks for sharing. What a mess...whatever you do stay safe. They have insurance to replace material things. Imagine you get a new bike.

Its similar to the destruction that occurred up here with Irene in that its unfathomable until it happens to you.

Those photos really bring it on home so to speak.

When we were in Arizona and Utah back in 2010 there were wild fires that were just being left to run its course. And the one enroute to Flagstaff sucked because on a motorcycle we were getting caught in the deluge of smoke.

Here is a pic that Maddog sent me. He and I rode through here with HarleylR last year. I can't believe the destruction of this area and what a beautiful area it was. Yes, material things are just that but it would still be hard to loose it all.

350 houses burned to the ground tuesday evening, Firefighters are getting a handle on the fire but it is slow going. Some people were allowed back in there homes last night.
It still stinks like smoke out side but the sky is clearer today, I'm working today so I guess that is a good thing.

Well I take it that you are OK, I hope so. I have also heard that this fire may be the result of a arsonist. Sorry to hear of all the loses of people's homes, can't even imagine having to go through that. We are surrounded by a forest and worry about that to, especially on July 4th.

We did not have to evacuate, we live about a 1/2 mile maybe east of I-25, everything west of I-25 had to evacuate, some have been allowed to go back home. I missed the news briefing at 4:00 today, the little message on the bottom of the tv screen says it is 25% contained and that 2 bodies were found in one of the burned houses and that there are still 10 people unaccounted for.
They may have not checked in like they were supposed to.
As far as arson they don't know anything yet, the investigators have not been allowed in yet and probably won't be allowed in for a couple of more days. Today they did some back burning of areas that the fire went around. The fire is in a very rough area with lots of near vertical terrain. They called it a firestorm that the wind caused, the fire moved 3 miles in 2 minutes and jumped across the primary fire break and then jumped the secondary break that is when it got into the houses, all the homes that burned all burned on Tuesday night.
Yes FLHT we rode right by where the fire is and highway up the canyon is closed. They are postponing the Pikes Peak Hill Climb for a month or more.

Thank you all that prayed for us and that were thinking of us.

Got sent this picture today of the fire. That is when you know it's close. Really good to hear your safe, was really getting worried. That canyon was a really beautiful area. I think that is where we saw the Elk running through the neighborhood streets.

HarleysLR, we've been praying the whole time. The devastation is unbelievable from the newscasts we've seen, and I'm sure it's much worse being there to see and smell. Hope you got through it alright.

Amazing photos, some of that fire looks like lava coming
    down the mountain.

Fire is natures way of clearing out old dead timber,
parks and national services and all these Eco-twits don't
let them clear out a lot of the rough areas of downed timber.
Feds won't let loggers in to clear downed trees, ego-tree-goons
fight it all over. Then you get a lightening strike, or a match
or some newbee hiker starts a fire and poof!

    Takes off like a shot....

They need to do more controlled burns during the year, and clear out the old stuff
to keep these fires down in the future...

You have to feel for the people loosing everything...

Then again, if you are underwater on the mortgage
