Our 10 year old water heater took a dump a few weeks ago, so it's been cold showers for two weeks

We have propane and I wanted a tankless water heater, got a few bids, $3500 that's nuts, so spent time researching and came up with a couple of good models, ended up with a Rennai RU98 propane outdoor model which eliminates the tank in the house/garage giving us more space to store more shidt we don't need.

This unit is 98% efficient non condensing, and being outside no need to run vents saving $$$.

Had to run the water lines up into the attic, over to the garage wall, down and drill through to the outside, also stole power from an outside light fixture, capped it, drilled into the garage, ran electrical conduit over the door and back outside.

Then had to hook up the propane line, that was fun, nothing exploded so far....

Nice work. I wanted to do the same a few months back when our old water heater went out, but ran into too many obstacles. One of those obstacles was my wife who wouldn't last a day without hot water, so a new tank style water heater went in. I guess I'll need to plan a tankless heater around the next time this one gives out in 10 years.

Yeah I had the same issue but just stuck it out, ordered it and told
her we had to wait on Amazon...

This morning she was super happy with the hot water for a shower
    frankly, so was I... LOL

BTW got the heater for under $1400 including the brass isolation valves
and the digital remote, so for $2K less than the plumber I got this
    installed myself.

We have been running these for years HRK. No electric hook-up runs on a small generator to fire a spark to light the Propane, real easy hook-up but must be vented. less that $200.00. Provides 11 lpm of hot water. This one is installed in a outside back room with washer and dryer. Cold water in hot water out and propane line to a gas grill size tank. Last about 3-4 months for showers, dish cleaning and washing cloths. They do make larger one but this works for us and on demand hot water is near instent. IMG_1552.JPG

Yeah these have been used overseas for years,
Recent laws with regard to tanks have changed the
market here, used to be plumbers tried to talk
you out of tankless, "not tested" don't heat well
hard water will destroy internals, not sure they will last

That was because a big part of the business is exchanging
water heaters LOL Kind of like the old "don't put synthetic
    in your bike" mookanics.

WOrks fine, I will be getting an inline filter though to
    reduce sediment and hardness

HRK, You can't get any harder water that volcanic island produces... it is even hard to make suds with soap here. The heater that I pictured is 8 years old and still looks brand new and works perfect and the great part no pilot light, the Generator takes care of the ignition. And to think I had an electric hot water heater that I was paying through the nose for each month and a life expect was for 10 years, And I could have brought one of these back LOL........and yes I am using synthetic oil in my bike now , all the oils.

P.S. this would work in the USA with no problem, just need to get a regulator hook-up there... i.e. gas grill size.
