I never saw a broken hinge but the new ones are better. At 190 lbs and 110 lbs I don't think we need wider seats but it is nice for long trips. A 1" thick sprung seat on a hardtail I can see why you can only ride a 100 miles a day, period.

I hope that you are taking inflation into account on some of this stuff JoshBob? Could you imagine what they want for such a nice clothespin nowadays? Besides, how many people nowadays hang their clothes on a clothes line anymore? Sure, I see them every once in awhile sure, but mainly no. It is about catering to the masses. If you don't want to change, you get left behind. JMO

I have never seen a older hing break at least on bikes from 99 to present. The tour pak hinges are butt ugly and they have finely put a descent looking hing on the tour pak upper lid. Even my 2012 SE Ultra came with those ugly hinges on the tour pak. So I purchased the upgraded Chrome hinges and put them on mine.
The new style opening system is a much improved system over the old. The one hand control is nice and much easier to open.

Went to look at the 2014's last Tuesday. Thought they did a nice job incorporating and hiding the radiators, fans and what nots on the water cooled. Unfortunately the lower cubbies are unuseable as a consequence. The new radio particularly the 6" screen looks excellent for us older blind riders. The seating is a little higher...same frame ploufier seat. The saddle bag "toilet" type handles look cool and easy use compared to the old ones. And yahoo on the upgrade from the cheesy tour pac hinges. Loong over due. Price is reflective of all the up grades...up a couple thousand. I think $23,000(2014) from $21,000(2013) give or take a couple hundred. The water cooled 27,000$+. They lost the front fender trim and saddle bag guard rails on the 2014 Ultra.

The fairing looks plastic instead of fiber glass. Can't tell if its the paint or if its plastic. CB is an option for the Ultra. Wonder what one does about a handy windshield bag and the new fairing air duct? And there is still an oil cooler on the non water cooled HD, didn't check to see if it was still on the water cooled model.

Speaking of longevity on products, did ya know that cars/trucks are going farther now, 100K is nothing,
the average age is up around 11 years old, used to be a couple of years and stuff went wrong.

No oil cooler on the water cooled limited.

I don't get leaving the CB off the Ultra, it's sacrilege!

All the updates come together well, I like the 6.5 radio,

Local dealer is jacking several grand on the limited. No thanks
    that's for suckers...

Dont care about loosing the space in the lowers, mine are off most
of the year. One other thing that concerns me about the water cooled is
having to keep lowers on all year, no way in Florida in the summer.

And the tour pack actually got bigger even though it appears smaller. Went from 4.5 ci to 4.7ci. I'm thinking of purchasing a 2014 Ultra here in the next couple days....the no CB isn't cool. I like how they relocated the pasengers intercom hook up on the outside of the rear left speaker..very cool.

Wonder how much more a CB added would cost?

Just looked on the moco web site...don't offer an add on CB yet.

Wonder if the 2014 Ultra comes with a oil cooler, if not be the first thing I would add. No CB hmmm, the Goldwing does not have a CB that comes with it either, its a add on. I also wonder if the limited is the new Ultra and the Ultra is like the old standard?

FLHTbiker...Air cooled Ultra comes with oil cooler. Twin cooled (water/radiator) does not.

CB is great for bike to bike communications or bike to cage communications. It is an invaluable tool in my experience.
I was just thinking that too..is the Limited the new Ultra and the Ultra is the new Classic/Standard.

True story and the picture to prove it... When I was at said dealer Tuesday I tried on some summer water proof rain coats. They all seem to be going to this new double zipper BS. I say BS because the double zipper and big stomach don't go together well. Long story short I had a double zipper coat on and it was stuck. So the 2 hot motocloths girls assumed the position on there knees in front of me to help unstick said zipper. Now it wold have been fine except my
2 freinds were laughing at what must have looked pretty suspect and took this picture. Needless to say here is proof that the HD moto clothes girls go the extra distance to provide good service.

Good service goes a long way, Badinfluence LOL! Good to see you back, buddy.

Johnny, we still hang the heavier clothes outside in the summer months to save on electricity. Power is insanely high in our area, and I've not gotten left behind; I chose to leave it all behind ;).

Ultra2009, it's not my ass that gets tired riding the rigid. I couldn't ride farther on a shocked bike, either. But I did ride about 120 miles yesterday just burning gas and discovering some new 2 lane country roads . . . :).

Hey now Joshbob, hows by you, having a good summer?

In the area that Joshbob lives is motorcyle paradise on them 2 lane back country roads. You could easily get lost as they go for miles and miles and miles in either direction.

I pull out of my drive way and go left and stay straight and follow thru with a few zigs and a zag and I'll end up in Pink Hill in about an hour. And never see a car the whole way.

Take a right out of the same driveway and its even more rural. Eastern North Carolina rules. I'm not just saying that because Joshbob is to cool for school.

I only hope God bless's me with a life after retirement.

Yup, it is a mostly rural area I live in with tons of 2 laners, but today it has dried out enough to finally ride into the "big city" (Rocky Mount) to the HD dealership and check out the new bikes. They might even let me ride one, who knows? But I'd never trade my shovelhead in for a new bike :D.

I think they decided it was an air bubble in the system. Something Harley mechanics have never had to deal with. Simple "burping" of the system will have to be added to initial set up.

in the manual I posted about the 2014 changes there is a specific way to fill the
radiators and bleed air out of the system...

Doesn't look like they have it resolved as of yet, and there are reports
of it happening, apparently there is a PDI step that may have been
    missed, or, a faulty part.

    Never be a first adopter...
