Okay....Now the other question...The local Indie has Formula+ in stock...Both conventional and synthetic...so? Which is best? Lot of people seem to swear by the Formula+ and since I can't get Redline 75W90 locally or Amsoil, guess I'll go with the Formula+, so what about opinions on the conventional or synthetic?

Go with whichever you like. I am running Amsoil but I would be just as happy with HD 20/50 as well. It is a horse a piece.:D

Go with what you feel best. This horse has been beat to death :roflmao:

Many of guys have rode MANY OF MILES with both types and all brands...most have a slightly different take on their experience. But, the good news is, we've been introduce to different oils that have worked in real world riding. It's nice when others perform all the R&D for you. :)

Top builder here recommended Monile 1 syn and it's easy to find.
I put it in all our bikes now. But use what ever you like. I do like the Syn oils better than Dino oil.

Got a quart of Formula+ this morning, checked primary chain, changed fuild..Bike only has 6400 miles on it..Fluid coming out looked just like and almost as clean as the new going in. Chain didn't need any adjustment...it was between 3/8 to 1/2 inch. Went for a ride before it got too hot out...Shifts a little smoother, little quieter. I'll run it awhile with that fluid in it, and then try the redline or Amsoil 75w90.

I run Mobile One V-Twin Syn in both my bikes: 20w50. A buddy of mine runs straight up 50w during the summer months...Really hot here.

I am going to be meeting up with another member of this site to do some riding. I am going to be doing some last minute checks and the primary chain is on the list as I just took the cover off to take a peak and make sure that all is well. Going to drain the gas, change petcock filter and inline filter, take the tank off and check to make sure that my rear tank mounts are good, change the plugs etc. If I have to make any adjustments to the chain, I just may use the Amsoil fluid to see if it is worth the hype. :D

A buddy of mine swears by 75W90 in the primary/transmission and 50W during the hot summers here..100 degrees or more with the heat index almost every day this summer..... I have been thinking about this...He says in this heat it's better for the engine and trans etc. Makes sense.

20w50 oil on a sportster goes in the engine. They recommend Formual Plus for the primary and tranny.

The 75-90 SVO oil is for 5 and 6 speed tranny's . Not a new model sporty. Its too thick for the clutchs.

I use Syn 20-50 in all holes on my Electra Glide.

On my wifes 09 nightster, I use 20-50 dino oil in the tranny and formula plus in the primary , tranny.

Look at the manuals the HD gives you with the bikes.
HD spends millions of dollars on products for their bike.
But it seem like a lot of folks know which is better for them.
I had a tranny on a 08 FLHT replaced and all I ran was Amsoil SVO 75-90 in the tranny.
    The bearings went out.
    Go figure

If I ride it hard, and I have what is said to be the best oil on the planet, it should stand up to it.
They ain't made to Baby all the time.
Blow the sut out of them.

Had a Build 07 Wide Glide. Had it to 140 in 5th gear one time.
Had it to 130 bunch of times on a GPS.
Had Syn 3 HD oil in all the holes.
Never had a problem with nothin . And I rode it like that for nearly 40,000 miles. I traded it in with nearly 50,000 on it.
Was adverging about 25,000 a year on that bike. I had quit work.

I've probaly had more bikes than you could ever count since 1964 Redneck.
Never had a problem with the tranny bearings either.

Ran both of my Diesels super hard and had sythetic oil in them and they are still sittin outside.

But I didn't ran oil other than what was called for in their manual.

That's what I run in it 20w50 Mobile 1 syn and Formula+ in the primary-trans-clutch. It works. No problems.
