    And since your next question will be why no auto defrost...

    I am not questioning your advice, but I am curious why manual defrost is best for an unheated garage...Can you elaborate?

    They work off a clock that every time the thermostat closes, it powers the clock (or adaptive defrost board on newer units). When it accumulates a set amount of time (usually 8 hours of run time) it goes into defrost. In a cold garage, the units don't run enough to initiate the defrost cycle.
    Additionally, the defrost condensate has to drain out in liquid form. If the space temperature outside the box is below freezing, the drain line freezes up and the condensate water then spills into the bottom of the freezer and refreezes making a mess. Eventually, it will actually run out under the bottom of the door.

    If your fridge is in your unseated garage or shop then If you drink enough of the cold beer in the frig, and replace it with warm beer, it will force the frig to work! Win-Win [​IMG]
