My 03 Heritage Springer 5 speed works pretty good but if I was using it for a lot of freeway travel I would drop a 6 speed in it. Thinking of doing a 95 inch and cam in it though.

Do you really think dropping about $2500 for the tranny is worth it? Seems to me it's not. I have a 95 ci in in my Fatboy and the 5 speed is fine. Most of my highway is around 70 mph.

No I don't but if I was traveling from state to state to state I would. On my other Springer I did the 95 inch build with cams. I always felt for freeway travel I wished I had the 6 speed. I never did the six speed because I didn't use it for long freeway use I used my CVO which made a much better long distant bike.

The CVO is what I figured is the way to freeway around on. Did you do the 95 kit yourself?

Nope, but wouldn't mind doing it to the 03

Wow a great amount of info into the + and - of my thought. I ride 1 up most of the time, and no hitch. The heart is now a 95in, 10.5 comp, feuling 543 freeway flyer cam, roller 1.725 rocker, 2006 heads with street port at Big Boyz, cv carb and V/H slipons . Motor pulls like a mule runs great.Agree with Sleepy that pulling a motor to low and not letting it run free is bad. Picture us trying to hump a 200 lb load up the stairs or a 100 lb load 2 times, option 2 sounds better unless the Dallas cheerleader squad was watching. LAL Want to visit family in Laurens S/C this summer, check out the TAIL. Thanks to all , P/S just feels and sounds like at 55 another gear would be great at 65 + cruising on a trip. Would most likely do the S/E option or Baker at this point or spend a little more on gas and time taking the ride. Thanks

Take the money you would spend on the 6 speed and buy your wife something nice and yourself something too!

Motor is 95 inch 10.5 to 1 has 2006 heads done by Dean at Big Boyz. The cam is a Feuling 543 with 1.725 roller tip rockers. It is a cv carb with a kit and V/H slip ons and a K/N air intake . Motor pulls great pulls sweet, have had a second thought maybe about trying a 34 tooth drive pulley for a more economical alternative on the trip. The spec says about 240 rpm less at 60, 2600$ vs 100$ Spend the rest on a true dual or cross over exhaust or? no old lady at the present LOL can spend it all on me.

the downside to a pulley change is you are changing the ratio on all 5 gears not just 5th, so you loose the advantage at lower gears

Understand the pulley change bring the shift points up in all gears and that leaving from a stop would change to a small amount. As I would use the 34 on a trip one up cruising think it would be a good bang for the buck, could buy a 30 to stick out my sthuff (lol) on Sat night. Thanks to all for the input so far.
