I generally sweep up before, don't like finding bits on the floor
that have nothing to do with what I'm working on, but look like
something that I could have missed, no need to spend half an hour or
afternoon trying to figure out wtf that nut fits, when it fits the frigging
    lawn mower.

Using a nice push broom has saved my but more than once when
a tiny part has fallen on the floor and I can't see it, slow sweep in a big circle
into a pile has found many a flying part...

Now this is what I was really impressed with. I took the oil pump apart so I could get a look at the inside of it so I could see if I could see any kind of score marks. I was pleased to find but not surprised to find nothing that caused me to think that I need to immediately attend to the pump. Evidence of this is also found on the crankshaft. Check out the pics.....:D

After I determined that all was good here. I then moved to what I thought was one of the most fun parts of the disassembly. Removing the Jugs!! :D Easy, just get the piston halfway down the jug. Once you are there, pull Straight up on he jug until it clears the piston.. :D

JB, get an old hose or some rubber tubes larger than the studs
cover the studs you don't want the pistons banging into them

when you are stuck looking for that piston C clip
at 1 am and it's flown out of the piston, you'll be wondering
if it's down in the cases or on the floor.

Once the thing is open anything you have can drop
in those holes, stuff that isn't even close magically flys over
    there.

BTW if you haven't done it cover the open holes with rags,
don't stuff them down in, we know what happens when you leave
a rag in the cases, sure it polishes things but cleaning out the oil
    lines etc. Ugg.

BTW, count the number of rags you have in the shop
before you start and after, :gah:

Now that the top end on my bike is torn apart, I have one little side project to do. That project is to make a simple steel plate that with 1/4-20 threaded holes so I can mount a mag base to the bottom of the case for the dial indicator. Checking the runout will be a real straight forward process. It isn't rocket science. or is it??

I merged the two build threads into one, lets keep it in one thread kinda like Josh's build thread so it's easier to follow and post all in one place.

    That is all.

so far so good , just lay the rags over all open spots , helps keep the dust & other unwanted stuff out , heck its winter up there you wont miss the garden hose till spring cut 8 pieces

Today I am bringing the cam plate to my Indy and I am going to have him press the cams out. I am not going to have him install the new ones just yet as I do need to order the new cam plate bearings. Once those are installed, then I will have him install the RS .557's. I also am going to get my plate made for the mag base so I can check runout.

I need to get some boxes from work as well as I need to start packing up all of my parts so I can ship them down to Kirby for machining. :D

What a Crock of Shiit!!!!! I was moving my heads to a different spot in the garage and guess what!!! I dropped the fuggen thing and I broke a fin off the rear cylinder!!!!!:gah::gah::rant::rant: Oh well, I guess I will either have to get a set of 06 heads or see if Kirby has a spare rear cylinder head that he can part with!! Piss me off!!!:banghead: So, I went to call Kirby to ask him and to also speak about the work that needs to be done, his answering machine says that he isn't around till next Monday.:gah::rant::roflmao: I love it when stuff like this happens.. :roflmao:

You can probably have it Tig welded pretty cheap.
Heard of folks using JB weld when the fin is on the bike.
You can't touch it for a couple days.

A good lesson to make you pay close attention to stuff like that.
When I pulled mine. I had a box I put them in with newspaper all around the heads.
I've seen something bump them and fins git broke off.
Fins get broke off when shippin them if they are not packed right too.
When you pulled them, you should of had a shelf with paper on the shelf to lay the heads on.

I HATE when I do that, but...bigger and better. Maybe you subconsciously dropped them so you can get those 06 heads. :p
