I won't run anything but 20-50 wt. Although I have considered pretty heavily about for my trip out to Nevada switching it to either straight 50 or 60 weight. By the time that I get back from my trip it will be time for an oil change anyways. I am not running an oil cooler so the only alternative that I have is to run thicker oil when out to the west. Just thoughts and doing a little ball busting as usual though. :D

Actually you'd get better cooling running a 20W-50 syn,
when hot it is a 50W, so running straight 50 would be no different.

Syn typically drops the temps and it stays like new longer
cleaning better so you are running better oil longer.

    :fight::roflmao:

I haven't able to get squat done today as I had to take time out for mourning. First thing that I am doing tomorrow after work is to get the damn clutch adjusted, then I have to do a little bit of work to the Sportster. Talked to Derek the other day letting him know that it is soon time to get the bike on the dyno.

Oil again . . . oh, well, what else have we got to do? I always used 20W-50 in my '72 Ironhead because the dealership said that was what the factory recommended. I started using it in my shovel as soon as it was up and running after the build.

But then Tattoo says to me, "Get that weak s**t out of your motor and use Valvoline SAE 50 racing oil. That's what he uses. So, I used it all last riding season (such as it was) and have had no problem with it.

I have read someplace that whatever oil one uses, it's best to stick with it and not change. I have heard that it's a bad idea to switch from regular oil to synthetic oil . . .

Finally I have the clutch adjusted. With the perfect explaination from Baggerpaul and other on how to do this, adjusting that clutch was simple. It wasn't that far off really, it just needed just a little bit of backing off. Now it is time to do some other small stuff like re-oil the air filter, check plugs, change oil. this thing is ready for its return to the dyno. Thanks for the "How To" on the clutch adjustment boys.

P.S. I completely messed up the adjustment of the clutch on purposes so I could find that sweet spot on my own. Different design but near same procedure as my Sportster.

I would want a few thousand miles on a bike before I stuck it on the dyno..
    But that's just me.

500 is plenty. In fact it would be better to break it in on a dyno if fin properly it's a more controlled environment

If it hasn't come loose by now it's fine

Only problem is most of em want to run it at max and get their max HP readings. If you use a dyno properly to break it in its a good way to do it.

The thought of revving a motor up like that gives me the willies.

Yesterday I had the Road Glide up to 4000 rpms and man is that thing scary, and that is without its proper tune and an air cleaner that is starting to dry out a bit. It will be before Hot rider and I take out trip to SD that the bike will be on the dyno for its tuning session with Derek. Way cool.

Today, I will be changing oil, cleaning and polishing and letting Hot Rider get in the drivers saddle and take the Road Glide out for a ride. Going to be a busy day.

35 year old motor. Makes me think my shovel will start flying to pieces. They do shake a lot, you know. Did they have dyno tuning when shovelheads were still out?
