What in the hell would cause the cable to tighten up? I adjusted the clutch with the proper amount of free play that the manual called for, the clutch worked great for about a day, then it was acting just like it did before I adjusted it. (Hard to find neutral).

I went back in to readjust and now I just can't get the friggen thing to adjust the way that I need it.....:gah: I made sure that the locking nut was semi tight so I can get a socket on it to tighten it up. Any suggestions????

Could be the adjustment on your pushrod adjusting screw needs adjusting as well. When I changed to an early style throwout bearing, new pushrod and clutch friction discs, I had to start from scratch on the clutch adjustment.

Perhaps all you need to do is readjust your pushrod screw. Back it out and turn it back in until it just stops and then back it off about a 1/4 turn or so. If the tension is too tight at the lever, then you need to readjust the cable as needed with about an 1/8" to a 1/4" free play at the lever. Recheck the free play at the pushrod screw. Should be good to go . . .

This works on my ancient set up and might not work on yours - you might have a completely different clutch than mine.

You're holding the adjusting screw in place at your setting with the allen wrench when you tighten the lock nut, right??

or the cable is being lock down at the wrong end . did you back the cable down all the way before you adjusted the clutch rod ? they must have no pressure on the ball ramps what so ever . or your clutch adjustment will change when the ball ramp falls back into place!

The socket will prevent ya from holding the set screw in place when you tighten. Just a thought JB.

Yes, that is exactly what is happening. :witsend: I went out and bought myself a set of 10 offset ratcheting wrenches so I can get this done. Using a regular wrench just won't work. :D

If you have a socket with the flats on the ratchet end you can put a spanner on you can hold the adjusting screw with the allen down the center of the socket....

I am not going to do that. I thought about for about a second yesterday. I bought 10 Craftsman ratcheting offset wrenches for $40. I am not going to complain.

    $40 for more tools- ok

Taking a grinder and making sparks fly all over
and ending up with a home made too - Priceless.

Made one myself bought the appropriate tall socket,
welded a nut to the top, and run a T handle allen
    down the center.

that's what ya shoulda spend the $40 on at halbla flreight...

    then you can grind stuff.

I just welded a nut on mine basically
you just have to buy a socket with the flats up top
you can still use it like a socket, same thing as a spark plug socket..
