    Got to do homework and talk to other people to make sure he knows what he's doing. You can talk to some HOG chapters, MC clubs , or just ask around.
    Then go to the biker bars and see who might be a good mechanic.
    There is no guarantee in life oh.
    Know a dude that calls himself a builder. Build a lot of engines, only for the customer to have to take it somewhere else to git it done right.:gah:

    Ya have some people comin to the biker bars complainin about who did what to their bike.
    We must have different kinds of Biker Bars in Texas than what you have there.

    And when ya go ride all day you don't stop in a biker bar and have a couple cool ones before heading home........;)

    That would be difficult for me to do considering I consume no alcohol when I have my bike with me. :cool:

    Dude complain some place else. You must be really board or somthing to get on here an tell everybody a bunch of B.S.. Its like johnny sade i only i got on this forum to put the word out and see if i could get any info about getting started on working on my bike. I have experiance with engins just not bike engins. Johnny has helped me out with some info on a coulple of good machine shops. O and i would never go to a biker bar and look around for a good machinist. Because everybody is a bad ass after a coulple a beers. So do me and everybody else a favor and go bother some other guys on this fourm. I might me new to the building engins for bikes. But i am not and idiot.

    Have no way of knowin what you or Johnny knows about engines.
    I'm on the other side of a computer screen.
    And I have built engines on bikes.
    Probaly been riding longer than you too.
    And I'm not new to the forum and I don't appreciate you telling me to go somewhere else.
    And I also have a 09 Nightster.
    I know some really good machinest that ride harleys and go to Biker bars, and one that works on the weekends at a INdy shop.
    And know a MMI graduate that has a indy shop that goes to bikeer bars, builds race bikes and dyno's them in Lousiana.
    All I made was suggestions. Go with them or do it how you want.

    My 1st Sportster was back in the 70's. The Sportsters were 900cu then but it was just a 883. Then I think it was in 74 I got the 1000 cc Sportster and if'n remember correctly it was the 1st year they went to left side shift.
    Who in their right mind other than the English would put the shifter on the right side.

    And over the years, I've seen a super lot of people buy the 883 only to find out a few months down the road they really wanted a 1200.
    But its all about money. Spend it now or spend more later on.
    When I got my wife the Nightster, I knew from the start when she was lookin at a 883 Low. No was I gonna git her a smaller engine.
    The 1200 on the nightster will scream if you can hold on.

    And Thanks guys for lettin me know I contribute something to this forum.

    I would have to agree with you on this one for the most part. I bought my 883 so I had a project and so I could learn the motorcycle performance world. I did want a 1200, so that is what I made it. And a really different and nice one at that. :)

    My question is, between the price you paid for the 883 and the money you spent to make it a 1200, what was the difference in buying a 1200 ,
    Then there's things you can talk about doing to a 1200 to make it run faster if you can hang on.

    My 1200 Nightster will run so fast it feels like it want to flip upside down.
    I was hammering it, was in 3rd gear and the front steering wheel wobbled, so I let off the throttle and the back tire come back down on the road. Guess it was about 1/2 " or so off the ground.

    Considering that I had listened to a n idiot builder to begin with, I have spent a little more than what I should have. But in reality, I spent about the same as to what a 1200 would have cost either from a dealer and or a private individual. Most of the expense that I incurred came from other customization to make it unique.

    The power that I have is insane. I have put parts in my bike though that will not let the bike lift the wheel easily. I am not saying that it won't, but that is just what my riding style is. If I am riding 55 and I twist hard on throttle, I am to 75 in a blink of an eye. That is what I like. :D
